"We’re doing something that is not usual in a way. The music? It’s very varied, the repertoire. And most of them are, all of them are my arrangement from the past," said Ryan Cayabyab about his upcoming concert on June 28, 8 p.m. at Resorts World Manila’s Newport Performing Arts Theaters.
Ryan Cayabyab, fondly called Mr. C or Maestro, is a well-known Filipino musician who has contributed greatly in the music industry. Because of his capabilities as a composer, conductor, singer, professor, host, producer and director of a singing or musical event—he is considered the Father of Philippine Music.
Friday, June 17, Mr. C had a presscon at TGI Friday’s which is located at the ground floor of Hotel Rembrandt, Tomas Morato Extension corner Scout Bayoran, Quezon City.
In an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Mr. C shared his thoughts on his first major concert with the Ryan Cayabyab Singers (also known as RCS) and his friends Dulce, Bituin Escalante, and Jett Pangan.
DREAM TEAM. Mr. C was very enthusiastic about his upcoming concert at Resorts World Manila, titled Ryan Cayabyab and Friends.
"I’m so proud of this dream team," Ryan blurted out. "This is the first time that I will be working with Dulce, Bituin, and Jett in a concert."
"Dream team because it’s only probably in my dreams that I’ll be able to work with only three of them, sabay," Mr. C exclaimed. "I’ve not worked with anyone of them in a full concert. Never."
"Siguro nakasama ko lang si Bituin sa isang ABS-CBN special, ’tapos in just one number na ang dami pa niyang kasama."
"Nakasama ko siguro si Dulce in a...whatever na palabas na siguro kasama ko lang siya sa isang production number na kakatiting. But we never got to work with each other."
"Jett Pangan? I never worked with him. As in ’yong work with him, kaya lang nagkasama kami sa isang concert for Gawad Kalinga. Siya with the Dawn, ako with the Ryan Cayabyab Singers, ’tapos sabi ko na ang galing naman nitong mamang ito. Bilib ako sa kanya. He’s really good."
Mr. C also shared the rehearsal experience that he had with his dream team.
"Sobrang gagaling nung mga tao, na we only had one rehearsal. Ay! No, no, no, two. One rehearsal was with piano na ako lang. So I can have ibang style."
"Style ng industriya papadalhan sila lahat ng mga audio file. Pakinggan nila, kakantahin nila ’tapos nando’n na, everything gano’n."
"Hindi gano’n ang style ko. Style ko is sinauna, sinauna. Let’s sit down. I’ll teach you the material because we can adjust. We can adjust the keys. We can adjust the tempos."
"I want them to feel important nang hindi ako gumawa ng areglo tapos pinasok ko lang sila dun. I want them to feel important para meron silang inputs."
"For example, kunwari sabihin masyadong mataas, kailangan ibaba. Ayan we can do that. Madaling i-adjust kapag may live rehearsal, may interaction talaga."
ON STAGE. Ryan Cayabyab and Friends is produced by the Resorts World Manila and directed by Floy Quintos.
"This particular show is exciting because it’s not a full Filipino show, it’s not at all Filipino music concert."
"Naungkat ko na ’yong baul ko, baul ng mga piyesa ko from the past."
"We’re doing a lot of production numbers, all production numbers. Hindi siya ’yong tipong pa-isa isang kanta. Actually isa lang ’yong isang kanta, it’s an opening number," he added.
On June 28, Mr. Ryan Cayabyab and the Ryan Cayabyab Singers together with his friends Dulce, Bituin, and Jett will delight fans with chart toppers and OPM classics beautifully arranged by the Maestro himself.
