Kim Chiu says that it was Xian Lim who comforted her during a very difficult period in her life.
The 23-year-old actress had to deal with the death of her mother, Louella Yap Chiu, who died of brain aneurysm on June 23.
Kim and Xian were both interviewed by Kris Aquino for the July 30 episode of her morning show Kris TV.
What prompted Xian to defend Kim from all the bashers who criticized her during her time of grief?
"Well, kasi kung mangyari sa akin yun..."
Kim interjected, "Siya kasi yung pinagsasabihan ko."
Kim recalled how she found out about the death of her mother. "Tita ko [ang tumawag]. Hindi pa nila sinabi na yung mom ko. Sabi lang nila, tita ko. Yung tita ko, sobrang close sa akin yun, e.
"Nung nag Cebu kami, siya na ang naging mommy namin. Siya na ang nagpapakain sa amin ng masarap na food."
The actress said that she went to Cebu without knowing the real reason. She said that she only found out "pagpasok lang namin sa ER [emergency room]."
Kim admitted that it has been 14 years since she last saw her mother.
What did Kim and her siblings realize after losing their mother?
"Kahit wala na kaming attachment sa kanya, pag nandun ka, iba yung feeling...na malayo ka. Hindi ko ine-expect na para kaming natunaw nung nakita namin siya nung time na yun.
Kris clarified that Kim had 14 years of non-communication with her mother. The TV host said that Kim was unable to experience the milestones of her life with her mother.
REAL SCORE. What is the status of Kim and Xian now?
Xian answered, "I always say it's unfair to even put a label on it. It's more of nandito kami para sa isa't isa."
Kris followed up by asking, "Obviously, you're exclusive?"
Kim responded by nodding yes.
Xian agreed and pointed out, "Oo kasi wala naman akong kaibigan."
Kim then exclaimed, "Friends na lang tayo!"
Xian continued, "I always say it's unfair to put a label...but I feel that it's something private..."
Are they content with what they have right now?
"Yeah, masaya naman kami. Walang pressure na nagaganap at walang obligation," said Kim with a smile.
Kris asked Xian directly: do you say I love you?
Xian said, "Nasasabi ko sa mga eksena."
He later declared: "Sinasabi ko sa kanya, maraming nagmamahal sa kanya, including na rin ako.
"People are willing to protect her. Kung malungkot siya, people are going to want to bring her up. People are going to be by her side."
Is Kim ready to entertain a new relationship?
"Ako kasi ngayon, ine-enjoy ko muna. Kung siya talaga, gusto ko makilala niya muna ang family ko. Since wala siyang friends, friends na rin niya ang kapatid ko."
Xian reiterated, "I always remind her na maraming nagmamahal sa kanya."
The Kim and Xian tandem will soon be launched via the romantic comedy movie Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo.
What lessons did they learn from this movie, which is based on a "self-help" book by Ramon Bautista?
"Marami akong natutunan...about life, learning to love yourself.
"Siguro yung mga girls na OA [overacting] mag love, ilu-love nila ang self nila."
Was Kim like that way before?
"Ano ba, Ate!" exclaimed Kim before saying yes.
Kris commented, "At least ngayon, you love yourself. Kitang-kita naman ang ganda mo."
When Xian was asked to share the lessons that he learned from their movie, Xian said, "Ang laking part yun na mahalin mo ang sarili mo. Ikaw lang ang makakapagpasaya ng sarili mo."
Xian revealed that for his birthday, Kim compiled their photos and created a slideshow. The young actress used a song for the video but she refused to reveal its title. Kim even pinched Xian as he continued to tease her about it but the actress did not say on air the title of the song that she chose.
