Come Friday, July 4, Alwyn Uytingco will say goodbye to his role as Beki Boxer on the 7 PM-slot of TV5.
When asked which character is harder to pull off, Alwyn told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in a one-on-one interview, “Yung Beki!”
The Kapatid actor elaborated his answer at the pocket press conference held on June 30, at Dulcinea restaurant on Tomas Morato Avenue, Quezon City.
“…hindi ko makakalimutan yung lahat ng mga naka-drag ako. Kelangan kong sumayaw.
“Kasi feeling ko, sa kaka-practice ko ng moves ko ng pagiging boxer, tumigas yung katawan ko.
“Siyempre babae na ako, ‘di ba.
“So kailangan yung kembot, yung lakad, yung pilantik nong kamay, kelangan malambot. Kelangan babae.
“Dun ako nahihirapan kasi hindi kami nakaka-one take sa sayaw. Mahina na yung, pinakakonti na yung tatlo.”
Alwyn was in a reminiscing mode, dishing out his most memorable experiences on the set.
1. He described his boxer character as “pinakamahirap,” stating, “challenging siya physically.”
2. His most unforgettable costume was the "Ciara Sotto tights," which he wore while pole dancing.
3. One thing he learned from playing Beki: “open-mindedness.”
His admiration for gays grew after three months of working on the project, “Open-minded naman ako ever since. Mas nakita ko lang yung struggle nila…"
4. He lauded gays for their intelligence and courage.
“Ako masasabi ko talaga yung intelligence nila…Hindi lang intelligence e kasi minsan hanggang dun lang yun. Pero para mag-manifest yun, kelangan may courage e to do it.”
He gave credit to all the gays on the set, particularly, director Monty Parungao.
Alwyn resumed, “Lahat, kelangan may kasamang tapang. Harapin at mag-experiment at subukan. Kunwari may idea siya, and susubukan niya.”
5. One of the best scenes for him? The “Beki-ful” ending, which will be shown this week, “Mabubuko na Beki Boxer ang lola mo,” referring to his character Rocky Ponciano.
WHEN HE’S NOT A BEKI BOXER… Off-cam, Alwyn is perhaps one of the most self-effacing stars in the industry.
Whenever he gets to watch himself on TV, he remarked, “Ako lagi kong kini-criticize yung mukha ko.
"Awkward ko! Awkward ng mukha ko…
“Ewan ko, hindi ba kayo ganun? Or siguro OC lang ako.”
While some actors may be looking at their portrayal, Alwyn’s thoughts had been usually: “Paano ako naging artista? Ano’ng anggulo ko kaya?”
Those questions prodded him to be more conscious about how he would look on the camera.
Thus, “…feeling ko kasi, nasa ano talaga, e. Nagre-reflect ‘yon sa kinakain mo and sa lifestyle mo.
“So kung nag-e-exercise ka, kumakain kang maganda, magmumukha kang okay, ‘di ba?
“So yun lang yung ginawa ko. Kailangan ko talagang mag-workout. Kailangan ko talagang mag-Bioessence, derma, and to eat healthy.
“Yun. Ginawa ko yung disiplina.”
Other interesting details about Alwyn…
1. He’s open to doing another gay role “in the future but not so soon, kasi, gusto ko pa sanang mag-explore ng iba na characters na hindi ko pa nagagawa.”
2. He wants to play a “serial killer…mga antagonists, rapist hindi ko pa nagawa.”
3. He will also think twice about having a butt exposure.
Laughing, he said, “…hindi ako prepared, parang hindi ako makakaarte. Hindi ko nakakita ang itsura niyan [his butt], e…Hindi ako confident."
4. If there’s one film he wished he would have been part of, “OTJ!”
5. His crushes are mostly Hollywood actress, namely, Emma Watson and Scarlett Johansson.
6. He wants to work with Coco Martin, Daniel Padilla, Joel Torre, Ronnie Lazaro, Marian Rivera, and Rhian Ramos.
7. He recently removed Robin Padilla from his wish list, “Makakasama ko na siya sa JasMINE.”
Speaking of the series he’s currently part of, “…dito sa JasMINE, sana makita nila yung effort ko kasi kahit ako, kinu-compare ko yung work ko sa Beki Boxer.
“So sana abangan nila yung gagawin naming pasabog.”
He assured his fans, “I’m trying to reinvent myself…”
