Derek Ramsay's first GMA-7 teleserye, The Better Woman, aired its pilot episode yesterday, July 1, 2019.
The new drama series features Andrea Torres in a dual role as Jasmine and Juliet/Elaine.
The prime-time series started by showing Jasmine making love with her husband, Andrew (Derek), on the eve of her birthday.
Parallel to this was the sex scene between Elaine and an older man (Tommy Abuel), who is actually married.
Elaine, who works as a prostitute, celebrated her birthday by going to a bar. A certain Michael San Luis (Jay Arcilla) approached her and mistook her for Jasmine. Michael suggested that Elaine and Jasmine might actually be twins.
Inside her hotel room, Elaine had second thoughts about Michael's suggestion that she had a twin. It was revealed that Elaine was left behind by her mother in a hospital.
The next day, Jasmine opened up to her mother Erlinda (Jaclyn Jose) that there's a part of her that feels sad everytime she celebrates her birthday, as if something is missing in her life.
She later caught Erlinda caressing a baby's name tag where the name Juliet was written.
When Jasmine asked about the name Juliet, Erlinda simply said that she was supposed to name her Juliet.
When Jasmine had a hospital checkup after experiencing palpitations, her cardiologist told her that she cannot conceive a child because of her heart ailment.
However, Jasmine refused to inform Andrew about her dilated cardiomyopathy, which will lead to their marital problems in future episodes.
The teaser for a future episode showed Elaine performing a sexy pole dance act that is witnessed by Andrew.
Viewers of The Better Woman can look forward to the meeting of Jasmine and Elaine, and how their worlds will intertwine.
