“Apat ang shows that I’m part of, but that doesn’t mean I’m having, you know, every part myself. Like in Marian, I’m just doing the first and second episodes. And then when I’m available, I’ll go in.
“But I have an alternate director, because it’s really hard to run the four shows,” panimulang saad ni Direk Mark sa PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at sa iba pang entertainment writers sa ginanap na pocket presscon sa Studio 7 ng GMA-7.
“Iyong Half Sisters kasi supposedly ay tapos na po kami this time. So, that’s why I was gonna handle Bet Ng Bayan and Don’t Lose The Money.
“E, ayaw magpatigil nitong Half Sisters, ayaw magpapigil, e. So, we’re still ongoing, we don’t know how long we’re going to be running. But as of now, we’re still running. So, we’re thankful for that…
“But if that ano na, stops already, I will end up doing just three shows. Pero right now, I had it all, four shows,” paliwanag pa niya.
ON BET NG BAYAN.
“Well, siguro ang difference niyon is, unang-una, it’s a talent show that will basically have three segments: Singing, Dancing, and Kakaibang Talento.
“In other talent shows kasi ay halo-halo sila, e. Eto, may mananalo sa Singing, may mananalo sa Dancing at may mananalo sa Kakaibang talento. And what is more ambitious about this one is that, it’s all over the Philippines.
“As in, they’ve been going around from the far reaches of Mindanao to the undiscovered areas of the NCR (National Capital Region). And then, maraming talents na nadi-discover na bago na hindi pa nakikita sa ibang mga talent shows. So, we’re excited about that.
“And then iyong Regional, talagang hindi sila ang pupunta sa Manila to shoot in our studio. Kami ang pupunta roon at sasabayan namin ang mga fiesta ng region.
“For example, iyong Sinulog. Pupunta kami sa Sinulog at doon namin gagawin iyong show, kasabay. So, we will highlight talaga the texture of the Philippines and then the talent and the raw characterstics of that side of the Philippines.
“Come Finals, we go back to Manila for a big show at dito sila maglalaban-laban. There will be three grand winners for each category,” mahabang paliwanag pa niya.
Kamusta ang tandem nina Regine at Alden?
“Well, they have not met yet. Wala pa, kasi, Alden does the regional. Iyong mga punta roon sa mga provinces.”
Ano ang inasahan mo kay Alden dahil first time niya sa ganitong show?
“From what I’ve seen, I mean in Party Pilipinas pa lang, I knew that he had already the potential of a host. You know, from what I’ve been seeing there, he has the charm, he has the charisma.
“Na kapag natural sa tao na mahilig kang makipag-usap sa tao, maski any… from class A to class E iyan, kapag comfortable ka at you’re down to earth, lumalabas iyan, e. At saka the person will reach out for you, hindi sila maa-alienate.
“Alden has that quality, just like Tom Rodriguez in Don’t Lose The Money. So, you’ll be surprised on how he does. With Alden ganoon na, e, maano iyong bata… Kasi, from humble beginnings, wala siyang ere… so, he is perfect for the show.”
Hindi kaya magiging awkward sina Regine and Alden?
“I don’t think so. If you watch X Factor or what, di ba yung host doon is nasa backstage and may host na nag-aano like Ryan Seacrest sa [American] Idol.
“Sa X Factor may ibang magka-ano ‘yan. I don’t think it’s gonna be awkward, kasi they’ll be doing different duties for the show, e. So, I don’t think so.”
Hindi ba mahirap iyon na isang regional at isang franchise show?
“Actually, it’s a nice challenge. Sa, Don’t Lose The Money, you know, de buton kami noon at a certain point. We had a consultant from Shine, from London that came over.
“Talagang may look iyong frachise na dapat naming sundan. And then, we can only upgrade it but we cannot downgrade it. That is the difference of running a franchise show.
“Dito sa Bet Ng Bayan, it’s exciting because we’re developing like Starstruck, it’s a franchise of GMA. And now, we’re developing Bet Ng Bayan as an own franchise of GMA.
“So who knows, it might be like an Eat Bulaga na bilhin ng ibang country later on. So mas exciting iyong idea na we’re doing a franchise and an original one.”
Kamusta si Tom as a host?
“Tom is a surprise to everyone. There are several people that auditioned for the show. I will not mention who the others are, pero si Tom ang nag-stand-out.
“The minute I saw Tom do the hosting and all, I said, ‘Let’s stop looking for other people, there’s our host.’
“True enough, when the ProdCom decided, it was a unanimous Tom Rodriguez who would handle that.”
Dagdag pa ni Direk Mark, “You know, I don’t want to mention any names from the other side, but he is our answer to Lucky Manzano… probably sa GMA is Tom Rodriguez.
“You’ll be amazed… and then he is coming from an eigtheen hour soap, and then he segues to ano and then his energy is always up.
“The way he would relate again, like Alden, the way he would relate to the people watching, ang galing!”
Nang may nag-usisa kay Direk Mark, kung sina Tom at Carla Abellana na ba talaga, ito ang naging tugon niya: “You know what, I'm sorry, I'm foolish with that, but what I can confirm is that, dumalaw si Carla, once. Dalaw, lang.
“Tapos, nang mag-guest iyong cast ng My Destiny, ang unang tinanong ni Tom ay, ‘Nasaan si Gracielle?’
“Dumalaw noong pilot [si Carla], that’s all I can say.”
Ano ang mechanics ng Don’t Lose The Money?
“Okay, basically Don’t Lose The Money, you play with the money. … as in mga games. Halimbawa, eto yung pera igaganoon mo sa baba mo, ipapasa mo sa kabila, ganoon,” saad niya habang ipinapakita ang demo ng dapat gawin ng contestants.
“Parang Minute To Win It, but it’s bigger with Minute To Win It because we have games na may mga ano yan, umiikot na ganoon na kukuha ka ng pera, ipapasa mo doon sa kabila, isu-shoot niya sa ganoon.
“Ang rule ng game is whatever you drop on the floor, talo mo na yun.
“So, sa umpisa pa lang panalo na kayo ng P250,000 and anything you drop or you lose during all the games, it’s gone. So kung ano yung particular sa nilaro ninyo, yun lang yung mapapanalunan ninyo sa jackpot.
“Pero it’s big ha, it’s not just a simple game. We have simple games like may chopsticks kang kagat na ganyan, bubuhatin mo yung ano, ilalapag mo sa ano na dapat hindi mahulog.
“Sa games, we have this called Cashing Cash-in, na may toner fluid siya na parang slime swamp. You have to run across it, you cannot run normally kasi you’re going to sink. So you have to be in perpetual motion to ganoon, to get it and to go to the other side to dunk the money,” paliwanag pa niya habang nagbibigay pa ulit ng pisikal na demo ng mga games sa naturang show.
Pagpapatuloy pa niya, “Ang saya niyon, it hasn’t been seen on local television. Na that’s one part of the franchise that we got. And then there is the Spinning Wheel na ganoon, na masaya rin.
“Mayroon yung Money Jump, na si Dennis at si Antonio, who was very fit ha, talagang hiningal sila when they played the game.
“So ganoon, tapos hindi mo maaano, na may twist sa ending na puwedeng panalo ka na, matatalo ka pa kapag mali ‘yung desisyon mo sa ending.”
Mga celebrity ba ang contestants ninyo rito?
“Celebrities and then we’re going to be doing also mga Policemen, Philippine Navy, mga ganoon. Iyong mga different kind of walks of life. And then Starstruck mix batch versus Starstruck 1, they won 224 thousand. So, close to the jackpot.
“And then may mga twist ‘yan e, akala mo panalo na, tapos pinass (passed) nila ‘yung final game roon sa kalaban at nanalo pa ‘yung kalaban.”
ON NEW SEASON OF MARIAN.
“Well, Marian’s going to have a very different look, at least on my episodes.
“I’m really pushing the limit and making it very different, making it very fast paced and the segments will be very different from what they’ve done before.
“I said, you know, if you’re bringing me in, you know, we’re gonna do something new.”
“Two episodes for now, for now. Kasi nga, I’m leaving for LA, I have Bet Ng Bayan... So, I won’t be able to cover the whole season on my own.”
“Sa ibang shows, yes, and then kapag puwede ako sa Marian, I’ll be handling Marian.”
Bakit niya pinalitan si Direk Louie Ignacio as director ng Marian?
“No. You know, Direk Louie is busy with Miss World and then Everyday Happy. So, he decided to beg off muna, kasi nga hindi niya kakayanin yung load ng Miss World. Lalo na yun, grabe ang demands niyon.”
