Lea Salonga is joining the cast of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.
The Broadway singer and actress is set to play a recurring character in the upcoming HBO Max series, which is a spin-off of the hit Freeform series Pretty Little Liars.
Today, September 28, 2021, Lea announces the good news on her Facebook account.
She writes, "The moms have descended upon the town of Millwood! And we have secrets and lies of our own (can’t let the children have all the fun)! So excited to be part of the cast of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin!"
Her post comes a year after HBO Max gave a series order for Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin back in September 2020.
Lea will be playing Elodie, the overbearing mother of Minnie (Malia Pyles) who works overtime to protect her daughter from her childhood trauma.
Aside from Lea, the other actresses cast as the moms of the lead stars are Sharon Leal, Elena Goode, Zakiya Young, and Carly Pope.
Chandler Kinney, Bailee Madison, Maia Reficco, Malia Pyles, Zaria, Mallory Bechtel, Alex Aiono and Eric Johnson were previously announced as cast members.
Lea's most recent acting project in the international scene was the 2019 film Yellow Rose, which starred Filipina singer Eva Noblezada.
Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is based on the books by Sara Shepard, which were also the source material for the first series.
The original Pretty Little Liars ran for seven seasons from 2010 to 2017, with Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, Troian Bellisario, and Shay Mitchell as the lead stars.
Shay, whose mother is a Filipina, also happens to be the second cousin of Lea.
The story of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is not related to the first Pretty Little Liars.
