GMA-7’s prime-time flagship newscast, 24 Oras, can now be seen by more audiences as it becomes the first Philippine newscast to live stream locally on TikTok.

24 Oras’ TikTok simulcast started on October 11, 2021.

It comes on the heels of the successful launch in September of 24 Oras’ official TikTok account @24Oras. Currently, the account has 691,900 followers, 5.3 million likes, and 276.5 million views as of October 14.

With 24 Oras’ simulcast on TikTok, GMA News and Public Affairs makes news and information available to more people, especially the younger audience.

It also aims to teach more netizens about media literacy and promote factual reportage through TikTok in light of the upcoming 2022 Presidential elections.

GMA Network Senior Vice President for News and Public Affairs Marissa L. Flores says, “By streaming 24 Oras on Tiktok, we hope to bring GMA News' Serbisyong Totoo to millennial and Gen Z viewers.

"Keeping them informed is even more important as we approach Eleksyon 2022, which represents another critical moment in our history.”

#24ORASCHALLENGE ON TIKTOK

The launch of 24 Oras’ TikTok channel also set in motion a campaign called #24OrasChallenge where netizens are invited to join their favorite Kapuso anchors in reporting the news by reading from a teleprompter.

According to GMA-7’s report, the #24OrasChallenge continues to trend with over 47.7 million views and more than 21,000 duets made with 25 published challenge videos as of October 14.
