Megastar Sharon Cuneta is set to top-bill a US series titled Concepcion to be produced by ABS-CBN International Production and United States’ Only Human Productions.
When she announced the series in her post on February 4, 2022, Sharon made fun of the coincidence of the title to her ex-husband's surname,
She wrote on Instagram, “Sige magtawa kayo sa title! Eh wala ganon talaga eh. Trabaho lang walang personalan!”
Sharon was once married to the actor Gabby Concepcion.
Teasing her fans, she continued, “Just might be my surprise #1 for all of you! This is Hollywood y’all!”
ABS-CBN International Production and co-production head Ruel S. Bayani said in an interview with ABS-CBN News, “I can understand why Sharon is so excited because it’s a very good role. I’m very thrilled for her!
“She’s playing a major role at talagang ang ganda-ganda ng role, ang ganda ng script.
“One of the reasons why also we were interested is, because, you know how much we love Sharon, how much we want to support her through this endeavor."
Adding to that, the show will also champion Filipino showrunners abroad.
Bayani said, “Filipino showrunners have been developing it for some time. Iyon naman ang uniqueness dito.
“ABS-CBN will be the local production company for the filming of the scenes here in the Philippines.
“We will be also helping them sa casting, with our Filipino actors and our Star Magic talents.
“This is just too special not to be involved, not to be a partner, kasi ang ganda ng project.”
Concepcion is a “crime family drama” centering on a Filipino family that ruled over a "Historic Filipinotown” in Los Angeles, California.
Also part of the production is Filipino-American actor Reggie Lee and Filipino-America film producer Jeremiah Abraham.
Lynn Harrod wrote the series and is also the co-showrunner with creator Craug Obligacion Wilson.
Its official synopsis says that Concepcion “seeks to examine the world of an Asian-American crime patriarch, a world of drugs and money, but also heritage and pride, viewed through origins, history, choices and consequences.”
