ABS-CBN’s The Broken Marriage Vow, the Pinoy adaptation of the hit BBC series Doctor Foster, is about to air its finale in two weeks’ time.

Headlined by Jodi Sta. Maria, Sue Ramirez, Zaijian Jaranilla, and Zanjoe Marudo, the series tells the journey of Dr. Jill Ilustre (Jodi) after discovering that her husband, David (Zanjoe), is having an affair with Lexy Lucero (Sue Ramirez).

Jill then plots schemes that greatly affect the people around her, including her son Gio (Zaijian Jaranilla).

The Broken Marriage Vow is an addition to the many infidelity-themed series produced in the Philippines.

Do these kinds of shows make them wonder about their personal relationships? What if it happens to them?

PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) posed the question to Jodi and Sue during a media junket with the lead cast of The Broken Marriage Vow on June 6, 2022.

SUE: “THERE’S ALWAYS THAT WHAT IF.”

Sue, who plays the mistress Lexy, admitted that even before doing the show, there has always been a what-if for her.

However, she clarified about having doubts even in her personal endeavors.

She said, “Actually, kahit siguro hindi namin gawin itong project na ito, there’s always that what-if, e.

“Parang sakit na ng tao yun na parati tayong nagda-doubt sa mga gusto nating gawin or sa mga gusto nating ma-achieve.

“Which is also good, 'no? Kasi when you start to doubt, also that’s when you start to think. Pag-iisipan mo talaga siya ng mabuti bago mo siya gawin.

“So, I think, okay din talaga yun na learning ng show na ito, pero kahit hindi namin ito gawin, parating may doubt sa isip nating lahat.”

JODI: “SIGURO I’LL JUST WALK AWAY.”

Jodi, on the other hand, having done other infidelity-themed shows before, seemed to have mastered putting herself in the shoes of Jill Lustre.

She remarked, “Kasi hindi naman din ito yung first na serye na ginawa ko na may ganitong klaseng tema. Siguro, pangatlo na yata ito.

“So, for me, siguro ang ginagawa ko na lang is kung doon sa point na inaaral ko yung character ko or inaaral ko, let’s say, yung scenes or yung buong istorya, makita mo o mapanuod mo na, ginagawa ko na lang is what can I learn from this.

"What can I learn from this character? Ano yung maaaring ginawa niya or ano yung maaaring hindi niya nagawa na nagpabago sana ng takbo ng istorya ng buhay niya?”

In the show, Jodi’s character Jill Ilustre plots to avenge herself for the pain her cheating husband has inflicted on her and their son.

What would Jodi had done if it happened to her?

She said, “Parang lagi ko ring iniisip na paano kung sa akin naman mangyari yun sa totoong buhay?

“I will always question myself na what if I was to treat them the same way that my character was treated in the serye?

“Lagi kong naiisip na siguro, kung sa akin nangyari yun, siguro, I’ll just walk away, I’ll choose to do better.

“Parang ganun siya so may well of wisdom ka lagi na matutuunan from every project, from every character na gagawin mo.”
