Perfect fit best describes the chemistry between Bea Alonzo and Alden Richards in the GMA-7 adaptation of the K-Drama Start-Up.
This is based on the comments made by their directors, Jerry Lopez Sineneng and Dominic Zapata, about Bea and Alden making their jobs “easier” with their “natural chemistry” that has the effect of magic on their scenes together.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) spoke to Direk Dominic and Direk Jerry during a Zoom interview with other media on June 21, 2022.
Direk Jerry said, “Sila together, magic! Yun lang masasabi ko.
“They brought life sa characters na in-assign sa kanila, hindi lang life kung hindi napakahusay na pagbibigay-buhay sa characters na ibinigay sa kanila.
“When they’re together in a scene, magic. It lights up! Meron silang dalawang chemistry.
“I’m sure, Direk Dom will agree with me, isa sa mga hardest trabaho ng direktor is to build chemistry.”
Noting that Bea and Alden have appeared together in endorsements and Start-Up is their first acting project together, Direk Jerry remarked, “Number one, they worked together in the past naman sa mga endorsements pero iba yung mahabaan na soap and show.
“Ako, personally, and Direk Dom will also agree with me, hindi kami nahirapan building the chemistry siguro dahil talagang mahuhusay silang artista.
“Inaral nilang mabuti yung characters and I think naghahanap sila ng characteristics ng bawat isa na babagay sa role para mahalin nila yung isa’t isa para mai-portray nila nang tama yung character, ganun sila kahuhusay na artista.”
Direk Dom, expounding Direk Jerry's statements, said, “I think the way they do it, I don’t really know the process, ‘no, kasi pareho naman kaming hindi artista ni Direk Jerry.
“Pero I think, ang ginagawa ng artista is they find the most likable things in each other and they feed off of that para ma-create nila yung chemistry.
“Because they’re both so very likeable people, the chemistry must have come really easy for them. They’re very likeable people.
“Hindi ko kayo tsini-chika, ha! I wish there was something more controversial that I could say!
“But these are very likeable people, likeable sa director, likeable sa utility, likeable sa lahat across the border, just so nice with each other.
“Sobrang good vibes and they feed off of that sa isa’t isa. They probably see themselves in each other kaya nagkakaroon sila ng natural chemistry, but it makes our jobs easier.”
In the GMA-7 adaptation of Start-Up, Bea will portray the role of Bae Suzy while Alden will play Kim Seon Ho’s role as Goodboy.
Also included in the lead cast are Jeric Gonzales as the character played by Nam Joo Hyuk and Yasmien Kurdi as Kang Han Na’s character.
GMA-7 has yet to announce the airing date of Start-Up.
The project serves as Bea’s first Kapuso drama series after transferring to GMA-7 in July 2021. It is also Direk Jerry’s second directorial job for a Kapuso show.
Meanwhile, the project serves as a follow-up for Alden’s The World Between Us, which Direk Dominic also helmed.
