The Philippine adaptation of Pasion de Amor has triumphed in Mega Manila and nationwide when it comes to the ratings game.
ABS-CBN aired Pasion de Amor as a replacement for Alex Gonzaga's Inday Bote that ended last May 29.
Topbilled by Jake Cuenca, Ejay Falcon, Joseph Marco, Ellen Adarna, Coleen Garcia, and newest Kapamilya Arci Munoz, Pasion de Amor relives the passionate story of love and revenge between the Samonte brothers and Elizondo sisters.
The pilot episode begins in 1995, at a time when the Samonte brothers are living in the land that they will supposedly inherit from their parents (played by Yayo Aguila and Lorenzo Mara).
Viewers had the chance to witness the arrival of their baby sister Olivia "Livia" (who will grow up to be Ingrid dela Paz).
The eldest son Juan Samonte (played by Louise Abuel) promised to their dying father that he would take care of his siblings, especially the unica hija Livia.
In 1999, the young boys are forced to leave their house has been grabbed by someone bearing documents indicating that their father pawned their land in the past.
The Samonte brothers end up earning their keep by working in a bakery called Tres Panaderos.
The grown up versions of the Samonte siblings are seen in the pilot episode with Juan (played by Jake Cuenca), Oscar (Ejay Falcon), and Franco (played by Joseph Marco) immediately baring their abs as they prepare for a pictorial.
The episode ended with the debut of Livia, wherein a helicopter suddenly dropped rose petals onto the crowd.
Viewers did not get to see yet the Elizondo sisters Norma (played by Arci Munoz), Sari (played by Ellen Adarna) and Jamie (played by Coleen Garcia).
MEGA MANILA RATINGS. How did Pasion de Amor fare in Mega Manila based on data from TV ratings data supplier AGB Nielsen?
The pilot episode, which aired before TV Patrol, was able to get a TV rating of 11.6%.
This figure was two points higher than its rival on GMA-7. My Mother's Secret, starring Kim Rodriguez and Kiko Estrada, registered a TV rating of 9.6%.
This Kapuso show is relatively new since it only started airing last May 25.
NATIONWIDE RATINGS FROM KANTAR. Pasion de Amor was able to get a TV rating that is double that of its rival show, according to data from Kantar Media.
Based on National ratings (Total Philippines, Urban and Rural) of Kantar Media yesterday, June 1, the Philippine adaptation of the Colombian telenovela was able to get a TV rating of 20.7%.
GMA-7's My Mother's Secret registered a TV rating of 7.8%.
