Last Saturday, March 5, Eat Bulaga marked the 21st birthday celebration of Maine Mendoza while It's Showtime had a summer-themed celebration.
EAT BULAGA. AlDub Nation rejoiced upon witnessing the first "lips-to-lips" kiss of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza during the episode dubbed as #ALDUBMaineEvent.
Maine Mendoza (aka Yaya Dub/ Divina) celebrated the “Maine” Event, her spectacular 21st birthday with the Dabarkads at the Eat Bulaga studio.
Opening the celebration was Maine herself on the drums, performing to the tunes of “Love me Like You Do.” This was followed by a surprise dance number from her and Alden.
Alden then presented to Maine five personal gifts that spelled out Maine’s name. The first gift starts with “M,” a St. Benedict medallion that will keep her safe. Alden said the medallion is a “special protection for you from all harm, accidents, and sickness and from bad spirits.”
“A for alaga” is the second gift which came in the form of African lovebirds. “Di sila pwedeng mag-isa. Kailangan lagi silang may kasama," explained Alden.
At that point, the Tres Lolas [Wally Bayola, Jose Manalo and Paolo Ballesteros] appeared onstage.
Alden’s third gift starts with “I” which stood for “illustration”. The illustration showcased a colored drawing of their team with matching heart sign. Alden added “Sana maging extra special to kasi sa akin naman galing.”
A notebook and pen set is the fourth present. Alden commented “ Sana starting today, 21, pag may naiisip ka, random thoughts…isulat mo lang.”
“E for your eyes only” is Alden’s final gift to Maine who cautioned her that it should not be “shared” to the public.
He also told her that “Paghanda ka na, ako ang magsusuot sa yo nito.”
“Marami tayong nagiging distracters tayong dalawa. Di nagkakaintindihan. Gusto ko lang sabihin sa 'yo na lahat gagawin ko. Yung mga wish mo. Wish mo sa akin. Wish natin para sa ating dalawa, gagawan ko ng paraan Maine. Kahit nasaan ka pa, darating ako” said Alden and gave Maine a tight hug.
Another surprise that Alden prepared for Maine is a song number. He ended the song by saying…Huwag tayong sumuko…Aldub you.”
While addressing the audience, Maine told him “Four days akong nagtatampo dito…secret na lang yung reason. Sobrang na-appreciate ko yung gifts mo ngayon, knowing sa yo Nanggaling. Marami akong gustong sabihin sa 'yo. Alam mo na yun…paulit-ulit kong sinasabi sa yo at pinaparamdam….maraming salamat. alam ko naman na naandiyan ka lagi.”
The couple were teased to kiss each other. Alden kissed Maine on the cheek.
For their second kiss, Maine said she would kiss Alden on the cheek but the guy suddenly faced her, causing them to kiss on the lips!
The first “lips-to-lips” kiss caused pandemonium among the Eat Bulaga hosts and audience members.
When everyone settled down, birthday guests were called. The Mendoza clan appeared full force to show support for Maine’s birthday celebration.
Maine’s dad was very thankful. “Gusto kong magpasalamat sa bumubuo ng Eat Bulaga na nagbigay ng break sa kanya. Na-discover kung ano mang meron siya. Maraming salamat sa Aldub Nation, sa lahat ng nagmamahal at tumanggap sa aking anak.”
Maine’s mom started with, “ Congratulations Alden!” She teased him by saying, “I deserve an explanation. I’m giving you 24 hours. Hindi kami na orient dito.”
She continued, “Happy birthday, anak. Lagi mong tandaan, anuman ang mangyari, naandito lang kami sa tabi mo. We will be your number one supporter. Mahirap man, masarap, maligaya, malungkot, narito pa rin kami sa 'yo. I love you anak. Maraming salamat sa Eat Bulaga.”
Alden commented, “Mommy , huwag po kayong mag-alala. Handa akong panagutan.”
Her siblings also gave special messages to Maine.
Lola Nidora (Wally Bayola) brought in a birthday cake for Maine. But before she made a wish, she approached three special guests from the barangay namely Ate Rosanna Villegas whom she met last July 16 in Olongapo; the same date she was introduced to Alden; Lola Saturnina Acido and Lola Estrella San Pedro whom she met on her birthday. She presented bouquets of flowers, letters, and cute pillows to them.
After meeting her guests, Maine made her birthday wish. “Wish na makita ko ang pangalan ko sa big screen...bida na ganun…”
The 21-year-old TV host-actress then became emotional as she thanked all her supporters.
