GMA acquires rights for My Love From The Star, Descendants of the Sun

Remember the kilig love team of Steffi Cheon and Matteo Do? Looks like Filipinos will be able to see them once again on TV screens!

GMA-7 has acquired the rights to remake the hit South Korean romantic-comedy drama series titled My Love From The Star starring Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Soo-Hyun. This drama was hailed as the No. 1 rom-com hit of 2014. The Kapuso network aired the series in April 2014 for its The Heart of Asia programming block in primetime. The show also had a re-run on the Kapuso network in 2015.

My Love From The Star tells the story of an alien trapped on Earth for over 400 years after being left behind by his kin. In the present day, the alien disguised himself as a teacher named Matteo Do (Kim Soo-Hyun) until his kind returns to get him.

With three months left on Earth, Matteo met a self-centered, slightly-troubled actress named Steffi Cheon (Jun Hi-Hyun) and fell in love with her.

Matteo must decide whether to leave Steffie or not since death will come to him in case he decides to stay on Earth for her.

Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera and Alden Richards were first rumored to lead the cast after the show finished airing on the Kapuso network in 2014.

Aside from that, another popular K-drama series is expected to air on TV with lines dubbed in Tagalog.

The Kapuso network has already acquired the rights to air KBS's top-rating drama series Descendants of the Sun in the Philippines which stars Korean superstars Song Joong-Ki (The Innocent Man) and Song Hye-Kyo (Endless Love).
