Jake Macapagal joins HBO Asia's Halfworlds series to be shot in Thailand

Jake Macapagal has been chosen to be part of the second season of horror-thriller Halfworlds, which will be aired later this year.

Filipino actor Jake Macapagal will be joining HBO Asia's horror-thriller series titled Halfworlds.

He is one of the new cast members of the second season of the show, which will be shot in Bangkok, Thailand.

The series, which premiered in November 2015, revolves around a parallel world of dark creatures from Indonesia mythology called "Demits" living with the humans for centuries. Their existence in the human world is revealed as a "supernatural judgement day" draws near.

Jake Macapagal became known for starring in the crime drama film Metro Manila (2013). Helmed by British director Sean Ellis, it was the official entry of the United Kingdom to the Best Foreign Language Film in the 2013 Oscars.

Aside from Jake, new cast members are: Peem Jaiyen (Hormones 3), Tia Tavee (Asia's Next Top Model 2), Emma Grant (The Idol Game), Myra Molloy (Thailand's Got Talent), Nicole Theriault (Phobia 2), Jeeja Yanin (Chocolate), David Asavanond (The Last Executioner), Charlie Ruedpokanon (Only God Forgives), and Teresa Daley (Transformers: Age of Extinction).

Halfworlds' pilot season was directed by Indonesian filmmaker Joko Anwar and focused on the character of Sara (played by Indonesian actress Salvita Decorte), a street artist who found herself the target of Demit while trying to uncover their existence in the human world.

The eight-episode second season will now be helmed by Thai filmmaker Ekachai Uekrongtham, the director of Beautiful Boxer and Skin Trade. The filming of the series has been transferred to Thailand after wrapping up the first season in Indonesia.

Halfworlds' second season will focus on a new character named Juliet, a researcher who will try to uncover the existence of demons in the human world and her search for an ancient artifact that is said to possess great power.

HBO Asia's Chief executive Jonathan Spink expressed his excitement for bringing the series to a different country through a press statement released to JakartaGlobe. He said, "Halfworlds was created to transcend geographical boundaries. We're looking forward to drawing more audiences into our fictional world."
