ABS-CBN actress Jessy Mendiola was named as the Best Asia Pacific Star at the 5th Asia Pacific Actors Network (APAN) Star Awards on Sunday night, October 2.
Jessy is the first Filipino to receive the said recognition.
The awarding ceremonies was held at the MBC New Building in Sangam-dong neighborhood at the Mapo-gu district in Seoul, South Korea.
In her acceptance speech, Jessy expressed her gratitude to MBC for picking her as the recipient of the Best Asia Pacific Star.
Her full speech: "I am so happy to be standing here tonight in front all of you and I am greatly honored to be the Filipino recipient of Best Asia Pacific Star Award.
"Tonight is a celebration of promoting cultural exchange and opening up of new opportunities in Asia. I am extremely proud to be part of this prestigious ceremony.
"I thank God for this wonderful blessing and I would also like to take the opportunity to express my sincerest gratitude for the invitation to be in Seoul, Korea tonight.
"To the President of MBC and to everyone here, thank you very much. Lastly, I would like to thank my Filipino fans here. Thank you very much. Saranghamnida [I love you]."
The Kapamilya star met several Korean stars at the red carpet of the awards night. Jessy took a photo with Descendants of the Sun actor Song Joong Ki before the ceremonies started.
Joong Ki is nominated at the Best Actor in a Mini-series category for his portrayal of Capt. Yoo Si Jin in the Korean series.
Aside from Song Joong Ki, Jessy also met actor Kim Min Seok who also starred in Descendants of the Sun as Sgt. Kim Gi-Beom. Min Seok is nominated for the Best New Actor category.
Before the ceremonies, Jessy took part in the hand-printing activity for artists attending the awards night. Jessy shared her photo on Instagram and wrote: "First time to do this hand print thingy. kala ko maiiwan kamay ko eh."
Jessy also met The Prime Minister and I actress Chae Jung An.
Jessy also met actor Cho Jin Woong (left) and South Korea's popular TV emcees Honey Lee and Shing Dong Yup (right).
