Shaina Magdayao is set to lead a new drama series on ABS-CBN.
Titled The Better Half, this Kapamilya teleserye will also star JC de Vera, Carlo Aquino, and Denise Laurel.
The cast members posted photos on their Instagram accounts when they did their look test last Tuesday, October 11.
In one of Denise's posts, she described Shaina as "afternoon drama queen."
No timeslot has been announced yet for this new series but it is known that both Shaina and Denise have starred in top-raters in ABS-CBN's afternoon block.
When she was still a child actress, Shaina was one of the lead stars in the afternoon series Marinella along with Camille Prats and Serena Dalrymple, which aired from February 1999 to May 2001.
Shaina also starred in the afternoon shows Kambal sa Uma (2009), Precious Hearts Romances presents Alyna (2010), and Kung Ako'y Iiwan Mo (2012).
Meanwhile, Denise starred in several installments of the defunct afternoon umbrella series Precious Hearts Romances, mainly: Bud Brothers: Red Roses for a Blue Lady (2009), You're Mine Only Mine (2010), Midnight Phantom (2010), Pintada (2012), and Paraiso (2012).
She was also part of the late afternoon series Annaliza (2013) and the Kapamilya Gold series Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita (2015).
The Better Half also serves as a reunion of sorts for the four lead stars who have worked together in different projects.
Shaina and JC recently starred in an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya featuring the story of Courageous Caitie.
It will be recalled that Shaina and Carlo played siblings in the 2003 movie Ang Tanging Ina, which she reminisced in one of her posts.
On the other hand, Shaina and Denise figured in a love triangle with Rayver Cruz for the now defunct youth-oriented series Star Magic presents Abt Ur Luv (2006), while Carlo and Denise worked together in Annaliza.
Denise and JC were also batchmates in GMA-7's youth-oriented show Click, and Carlo and JC were able to co-star in the GMA afternoon series Makita Ka Lang Muli, which was produced by TAPE Inc.
