Blind Pinay Katchry Jewel Golbin, who goes by the name Alienette Coldfire, advances to the next round of La France a un Incroyable Talent (France Got Talent).
She impressed the judges with her audition which aired on Tuesday night, November 1, on France's M6 network.
Before her performance, Alienette was asked by the judges how she learned to speak French. The Pinay singer said it was her online friends who taught her the language for three years. She recalled, "I learned with my friends through the Internet. When I heard Edith Piaf's 'La Vie en rose,' I wanted to understand the lyrics. That's how I learned French."
Alienette also said that she out to prove everyone who doesn't believe in her that she can do great things even if she's physically impaired. She said, "At home, it is said that the blind are unable to do great things. They are wrong. There is always another way to live like everyone else."
The 25-year-old aspiring singer from Ilo-Ilo impressed the show's jury—composed of Just For Laughs founder Gilbert Rozon, French illusionist Eric Antoine, French singer Helena Segara, and French-Algerian choreographer Kamel Ouali—with her rendition of the French version of song "I Dreamed A Dream" from the hit musical Les Miserables.
Gilbert took the chance to speak first and told her, "I'm usually cold-blooded but now, I'm emotional. You have a gift from angels."
Meanwhile, Eric was left speechless after her performance and said, "I'm speechless. From the first note, I got chills. It's rare for me to not know what to say, I do not know what to say. Your strength and vulnerability is absolutely sublime."
Helene became teary-eyed while watching her perform and only managed to tell the Pinay singer, " Thank you, it means so much. "
In 2008, Alientte auditioned for GMA-7's Pinoy Idol using her real name but failed to make it to the top 12 finalists.
In 2014, Alienette caught the attention of netizens after effortlessly belting out Mariah Carey's "I'll Be There" at a karaoke seller in a mall.
