Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres to make Philippine comeback

Former beauty queen Dayanara Torres is "glad to be back with Manila GENESIS again!"


Puerto Rican beauty queen Dayanara Torres is set to make a Philippine comeback!

Last Friday, December 23, the 42-year-old former Miss Universe titleholder announced on Instagram that she will be represented by Manila Genesis entertainment & Management Inc. in the Philippines.

She wrote, "Glad to be back with Manila GENESIS again! Couldn't feel more at home! Love you guys @angelipv @therealgaryv Here's to New Beginnings."


Dayanara's former talent manager Angeli Pangilinan confirmed in her Instagram post that Dayanara is indeed back with her talent agency.

Angeli recalled how they sealed the deal by writing in her caption, "A little over twenty years ago she had just won Ms. Universe and Miss Puerto Rico, fell in love with the Philippines. She landed on our laps literally as her manager then she had to go back to the USA and Puerto Rico.

"Dayanara Torres met with us two months ago during Gary's LA show in October and then again on our way to Orlando in November.

"Gary and Yari shot HATAW NA the movie in 1994! Definitely one of the loveliest hearts (and faces) we have ever met, Yari was on ASAP as one of the original hosts with Pops, Ariel and Martin, (Remember SayawNara)and on Eezy Dancing on TV5 with G Tongi!

"She did a couple of movies including Hataw Na with Gary ! She asked how Manila was and I said "Missing you..." in so many ways and she asked if we could represent her again like before.

"May the Lord God bless this renewed friendship and partnership! The Philippines loves you Dayanara! See you soon? Gina I need your help! Haha we love you Yari.

Dayanara hinted about her possible comeback in the Philippines after posting her photo with Angeli and Gary V on Instagram. She met with the couple at The Greek Theater in Los Angeles, California where Gary V performed for the celebration of Filipino-American History Month.

Filipinos fell in love with the Puerto Rican beauty queen after she crowned her successor, India's Sushmita Sen, at the Miss Universe 1994 pageant which was held in the Philippines. 

With her growing popularity, showbiz opportunities came to her and Dayanara landed several movie and TV projects.

She hosted ABC-5's Easy Dancing with G Toengi and was one of the original hosts of ABS-CBN's Sunday variety show ASAP.

Dayanara's notable Philippime movies include Basta't Kasama Kita (1995) with Aga Muhlach and Type Kita, Walang Kokontra (1999) with Cesar Montano.
