After weeks of speculations, it is confirmed that Richard Gutierrez has now transferred to ABS-CBN.
He signed a TV and movie contract with the Kapamilya network earlier today, May 31.
Prior to his transfer, he was with GMA-7 for 12 years and he had a short stint on TV5.
In a press conference held after his contract signing, Richard said that it is the perfect time for him to make a career change especially after being away from the limelight for more than a year.
Richard told the press, "As we all know naman, I've been away from the limelight for a while now and I really chose that path.
"Now, I'm back, now I'm ready. I am re-energized, I'm focused and I know myself better now so perfect timing yung nangyari.
"I was on a vacation with my family when I heard the news. The moment I got back from that vacation, I hit the gym right away!
"But the timing was perfect. Everything fell into place perfectly.
"I believe that it's a blessing. I believe that God wouldn't give me this blessing if he knew that I wasn't ready. He gave it to me now because I'm ready."
For his first Kapamilya project, Richard will play the role of Sandrino in the upcoming series La Luna Sangre, topbilled by Kathyrn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.
La Luna Sangre will also feature John Lloyd Cruz and Richard's former love team partner, Angel Locsin.
In this fantaserye, Sandrino is regarded as the King of Vampires.
The 33-year-old actor narrated how he accepted the project.
He explained, "Well, initially, very vague kasi yung naging usapan. But when I read the script, I mean the storyline and the character description, I knew right away that this project is perfect.
"To be portraying a vampire has always been a dream of mine as an actor and doing something like this as my first project for ABS-CBN, I think, is a really good path for me.
"When I read the character description and the storyline, perfect, let's do it."
After he accepted the role then came the offer to do a movie with Angel.
He continued, "After that, nanganak yung offer, nagkaroon ng pelikula with Angel.
"So another blessing, so I had to push the treadmill button harder, lift heavier and prepare better.
"I didn't expect this, this just landed and I'll be stupid to refuse. I'm happy to be here."
How did his mother Annabelle Rama feel after Richard got the offer?
Richard answered, "She's very happy. Teary-eyed siya.
"She's very happy, my whole family is very happy. They're very supportive and I'm blessed to have my family and parents behind me."
THANKFUL TO GMA. One reporter asked Richard about his fantasy series competing against Mulawin vs. Ravena.
GMA-7's newest telefantasya is the sequel to the 2004 series Mulawin, which was topbilled back then by Richard and Angel.
Richard answered with a laugh, "I knew this question would somewhat come along!"
Without mentioning his previous show, Richard expressed his gratitude for his former network.
He said, "I'm thankful for what GMA has done for me throughout the years that I worked with them. They shaped who I am.
"But as an individual, as an actor, I'm happy to be where I am today. I'm thankful but I'm also looking ahead.
"In the entertainment industry, especially here in the Philippines, you just have to give your best.
"I'm in the position now where I can give my best again or I can entertain audience. Sa dami ng problema ng Pilipinas, they can escape to 30 minutes to an hour of watching. That's my goal, that's my purpose.
"Kung ano man ang pagtanggap, kung sino man ang competitors, I'm just gonna give my best."
