KenBie and Team Asukal for the win!
The tandem of Ken Chan and Barbie Forteza prevailed when their characters Yuan Lee and Billie Bendiola ended up together in Meant To Be.
The GMA-7 primetime rom-com series aired its pilot episode on January 9 and concluded just last night, June 23.
Billie chose Yuan over three other equally handsome and deserving men: Ethan Hughes, Andoy dela Cruz, and Jai Patel, who are played respectively by Ivan Dorschner, Jak Roberto, and Addy Raj.
At first, Yuan thought Billie picked out Ethan, so he left the venue of the concert of the Tres Marias singing trio—composed of Billie’s mother Mamay (Manilyn Reynes), Mamay’s sister Suzy (Tina Paner), and Ethan’s aunt Beatriz (Sheryl Cruz).
After the concert, Billie was left alone in the auditorium, wondering where Yuan went. Unknown to her, he saw her sitting by her lonesome and walked towards her.
They moved closer to each other until their arms touched. She thought she was in danger, so she made some karate moves and accidentally hit him. Being his suplado self, Yuan nonchalantly said, “Aray!”
Congrats!”
She looked surprised: “Congrats, bakit?” But he went on: “Magiging masaya ako para sa inyo.”
She gave a meaningful smile.
He was taken aback: “Ako? Bakit ako?” The same for her: “Ha?
He wasn’t listening to her. “You have one minute,” he told her. She protested. He went on: “Timer starts now.”
Though seemingly flustered, she obliged, and in between her response, video clips of their sweet moments played.
He was unconvinced: “’Yon lang ’yon?”
She tried again. At ikaw, ’yon!”
He flashed a naughty grin: “’Yon lang?”
Feigning irritation, she complained: “Ang dami kong sinabi!”
“’Yon lang?” he asked.
She was ready to give up. “Kung ayaw mo, e di ’wag.”
“Billie, joke lang,” he said, without sounding humorous, and then dropped the bomb: “Billie, mahal kita.”
She finally confessed: “Dahil mahal kita.”
Their longing eyes met, and they lovingly embraced each other—and that’s how Billie finally ended her quest for someone meant for her.
Later in the show, Billie summed up her journey.
“Sabi nila, sa seven billion na tao sa mundo, may isa lang meant to be para sa ’yo,” she said in reflection. “Haggard, di ba? Pero, nangyayari, e. Hindi impossible. Mahirap, pero kaya.
“Meron namang nagpapakabaliw kakahanap ng ka-meant to be. Naniniwala ako na lahat ng taong makikilala natin, may dahilan. ’Yong iba, meant to be na magpasaya sa atin.
In between the end credits, there were scenes showing the cast members in happy situations.
Finally, the four men who courted Billie—Jai, Ethan, Yuan, and Andoy, collectively called JEYA—hosted a big pool party to celebrate the opening of their JEYA Sports Club.
The following morning, they woke up not knowing what had happened. The four boys were all topless while floating in pizza-shaped inflatables in the pool.
They asked one another: “Ano ba ang nangyari kagabi?”
The camera panned upwards, and these words appeared: “Ano nga ba? Abangan!”
