It didn't take a lot of convincing for Eula Valdes to agree to return to ABS-CBN.
In fact, she accepted The Good Son because she really wanted to do projects again with the Kapamilya network.
She revealed this during the show's press conference and screening yesterday, September 18, held at ABS-CBN's Dolphy Theater.
Eula said, "Bukod sa gusto kong bumalik sa ABS, maganda lagi ang projects na ino-offer ng ABS sa akin and excited ako."
What made the offer more enticing was that the primetime series reunites her with Albert Martinez, Liza Lorena, John Estrada, and Nash Aguas, whom she worked with ten years ago in the 2007 series Maria Flordeluna.
Meanwhile, her last project with ABS-CBN was the 2014 fantasy series Dyesebel, starring Anne Curtis.
In a separate interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other reporters after the presscon, the veteran actress revealed that ABS-CBN has always been persistent in offering her TV shows.
However, GMA-7 had given her consecutive teleseryes: all of which she could not refuse.
"It just so happened na hindi pa ako natatapos sa isang project with them, meron na agad kasunod, so nakaka-oo kaagad.
"And then mag-o-offer ang ABS, sayang! Naunahan!
"Ayoko naman noong parang um-oo na tayo tapos tanggihan na natin para pagbigyan. Gusto namin, walang masasabi parehong network."
For this particular project—which was then titled Kung Kailangan Mo Ako—Eula was still doing Encantadia with GMA-7.
She revealed that the ABS-CBN offer actually came first before she was offered to play Avria in the Kapuso telefantasya.
"This time around, I was still doing Hahamakin Ang Lahat with GMA and then kinuha nila ako sa Encantadia, ito [The Good Son], nakakasa na.
"Sinabi naman nila kasi kung kailan magsa-start so may time pa. Kasi ang offer sa akin ng GMA for Encantadia, three weeks lang na na-extend."
According to Eula, she made sure that both networks knew about her two separate projects.
"Nagpaalam ako dun sa kabila and kapag ano naman, about yung Encantadia, alam naman nila yun.
"Nakakatuwa kasi nga nag story con, sabi nila, 'Dali kailangan na umalis ni Eula kasi meron pa siyang Encantadia [taping].'
"Happy ako na ganun yung attitude ng ABS."
She also clarified that the Kapamilya show wasn't the reason why her Avria character had to be killed in Encantadia before it ended last May of 2017.
"Hindi ako namatay dahil sa ABS. Baka sabihin naman nila na naninira ako ng istorya, di ba!
"So sinabi ko na three weeks lang talaga yung Encantadia and na-delay lang ito kasi nag-iba ng cast."
Originally, Janella Salvador and Elmo Magalona were supposed to be part of the project.
The show then underwent several revisions in the script and it was eventually announced that Loisa Andalio and Jerome Ponce were taking on the roles meant for the ElNella love team.
Eula is delighted pointed out that she did not burn any bridges by working for the two rival networks.
She quipped, "Wala. Tuloy tuloy lang! Siguro na-earn ko na rin, hindi ako natatali sa isang network, maswerte din ako na kinukuha ako ng iba and okay lang sa kanila.
"Kasi, di ba, yung mga may love team love team, sila lang nakatali na ganyan?
"Sa edad namin, suwerte lang kami na di kami natatali. Per project kasi ang kontrata ko."
Eula's new Kapamilya show will premiere on September 25.
The other veteran actors who are part of The Good Son are John Estrada, Mylene Dizon, Liza Lorena, Ronnie Lazaro, and Albert Martinez.
