New GMA-7 actress Sophie Albert takes on her first teleserye as a Kapuso via the upcoming series The One That Got Away (TOTGA).
This serves as her first official project with the network after she signed up with GMA Artist Center last October.
When PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) spoke to Sophie during the January 4 press conference of TOTGA, the 25-year-old actress said she was not expecting to get a teleserye right after signing up with the Kapuso network.
"Actually, it was a surprise kasi I just signed with GMA last October and then I was expecting to just be doing workshops for a while kasi nga, medyo matagal akong hindi nakapag work ng yung teleserye. So I was expecting na ganoon muna.
"And then one day, 'Uy, may taping ka bukas for TOTGA!'
"I was actually surprised kasi I was expecting, middle of this year pa, but before the year ended, meron na!
"They told me naman when I signed, next year we'll give you a show. So I was just waiting.
"I know naman na they won't say if they won't do it. So I was pleasantly surprised that it was this because it's a bang, it's the first of the year!"
TOTGA, which is top-billed by Lovi Poe, Max Collins, Rhian Ramos, and Dennis Trillo, will premiere on January 15 and is GMA Telebabad's opening salvo for 2018.
This is also the reason why Sophie is very grateful to her new home network.
She said with a smile, "I'm really happy. I keep saying it but it's true. I'm really happy that I'm here and the minute I signed with GMA or even when I was still coming for meetings, parang I already felt very welcome.
"They're really welcoming and I don't know if it's like that for everybody but I really felt good. And they make me feel na parang I can do this, I can do this!
"For them to put me here right away [in TOTGA], I'm very grateful."
Prior to transferring to GMA-7, Sophie was a homegrown talent of TV5. She won the Best Actress title in TV5's original reality show Artista Academy in 2012.
She stayed with the Kapatid network for four years, until the TV station underwent changes in its management and programming.
Sophie also did a guest appearance in ABS-CBN's show Ipaglaban Mo in 2017.
ROLE IN TOTGA. In the upcoming series, Sophie plays Chanel, the current girlfriend of Liam (Dennis) who is a sophisticated marketing executive for a local clothing brand.
Their relationship becomes rocky when Liam gets into an accident. When he wakes up from a coma, he is reunited with his three ex-girlfriends played by Lovi Poe, Max Collins, and Rhian Ramos.
Sophie described her character, "Actually, I'm so nice. I'm so sweet and parang hindi makapatay langaw. Very nice but you don't know!
"Ako yung present girlfriend kasi but yun nga, siguro may something, but as of now, I'm very nice."
However, she has yet to share scenes with Dennis in the show.
"Actually, we haven't had that many scenes together pa. Kasi yung mga scenes namin together, coma pa siya so nasa bed lang siya.
"So I haven't been really able to talk to him pa. But so far, nice naman."
Sophie said that she enjoys working with the TOTGA leading ladies.
"They're friendly, they're very professional. I could see how GMA artists work because of them. Parang they don't complain.
"They just do what they have to do. They're pleasant with everybody, they're always smiling. So ang ganda. Super happy!"
TOTGA is directed by Mark dela Cruz and Conrado Peru.
