Glydel Mercado says it is her personal choice to work for GMA-7: "Mas relaxed yung feeling kahit mabibigat yung eksena. Mas relaxed yung dating." The actress is part of the new Kapuso teleserye The Stepdaughters.

Actress Glydel Mercado is thankful to GMA-7 because even with her contract expired in 2017, she has a new show with the Kapuso Network.

Glydel is part of the new afternoon series, The Stepdaughters, where she plays the mother of Megan Young.

In Glydel's words, "Naka-contract ako dito before pero di pa uli kami nagre-renew ng contract.

"Pero so far, thankful naman ako na kahit di pa ako under contract, kasi nag-lapse na yung contract ko last year, kahit kakatapos lang ng contract ko is marami pa rin silang binibigay na projects. So very thankful ako doon." (Philippine Entertainment Portal) spoke to Glydel during the February 2 media launch of The Stepdaughters held at Prime Hotel in Quezon City.

The Stepdaughters is her 10th consecutive project with GMA-7 since she returned to acting in 2012.

The actress gave birth in 2011.

Before The Stepdaughters, Glydel's TV projects in GMA were: Hindi Ka Na Mag-Iisa (2012), Unforgettable (2013), My Husband's Lover (2013)...

Rhodora X (2014), Ang Lihim Ni Annasandra (2014), The Rich Man's Daughter (2015), Wish I May (2016), Sinungaling Mong Puso (2016), and My Love From The Star (2017).

Before her pregnancy break in 2011, however, Glydel's projects were with ABS-CBN.

Some of the shows she did with the Kapamilya Network were: Momay (2010), Sabel (2010), and My Binondo Girl (2011).

The 42-year-old actress admitted that it was her personal choice to do projects with GMA-7 these past six years.

When asked why, Glydel said, "Kasi, parang mas homey. Mas homey yung feeling ko, sa mga staff, EPs [executive producer]. Actually karamihan ng EP dito, kaibigan ko, so mas at home ako.

"Nag-enjoy din naman ako sa ABS, parang may difference lang na, doon kasi, hindi naman sa ano, pero sasabihin ko lang yung difference.

"Parang sobrang effort—as in, effort na effort talaga yung sa ABS."

Glydel made it clear that she still wants to do projects with the Kapamilya network, but she admitted that she prefers the working environment in GMA now that she's in her 40s.

Explaining, she said, "Gusto ko rin gumawa doon, pero parang dito, mas relaxed, e. Mas relaxed yung feeling kahit mabibigat yung eksena. Mas relaxed yung dating.

"Doon talaga kasi kailangan paulit-ulit, which is okay naman dahil maganda yung quality.

"Pero mas gusto ko yung ganito na lang, kasi relaxed, kasi tumatanda na tayo siyempre, mas gusto ko yung relaxed, ayoko noong nai-istress."

LOVE TEAM. Glydel is back to playing a kind character in The Stepdaughters.

She did kontrabida roles in her past two teleseryes: My Love From The Star (2017) and Sinungaling Mong Puso (2016).

The actress also admitted to that there were times she felt uncomfortable doing kontrabida roles.

"Well, actually, minsan kapag kontrabida yung role ko, nai-stress ako.

According to Glydel, this is the first time in years that she will be in a "love team" with Gary Estrada, who plays Katrina Halili's father.

She laughed as she pointed out, "For the first time in my career kasi, magiging magka-love team kami ni Gary Estrada dito.

"Sabi nga namin ni Gary, kung kailan tayo tumanda at saka tayo may love team!

"Kasi ang last ko siyang naka-work is leading man ko siya, pero mga binata at dalaga pa kami noon. In Mister Mo, Lover Ko (1999), yung movie ko noon with Papa Jesse Ejercito.

"Yun yung last naming team-up. Tapos Rosalinda (2009) na kami, pero hindi siya ang partner ko, si Ariel Rivera ang partner ko doon."

ON HUSBAND TONTON. Before getting a major role in The Stepdaughters, Glydel was supposed to reunite with her husband, Tonton Gutierrez, in a teleserye.

Glydel revealed that she was supposed to be part of the Kapuso prime-time series Sherlock, Jr., where Tonton plays the main villain.

"Actually, dapat magkasama kami doon, parang siya dapat yung partner ko doon.

"Pero somehow, si Nanay Lolit, pinaghiwalay kami. Parang mas maganda 'ata yung magiging role ko dito sa The Stepdaughters."

Nanay Lolit is talent manager Lolit Solis, who handles the career of the real-life couple.

How did she feel when their supposed reunion did not push through?

"Di ba, alam mo na, more taping, more pay!"

The 42-year-old actress said that she will be very happy if she has a project again with her husband, "Pero sana magandang project kasi first team-up uli naming mag-asawa, so sana magandang-maganda talaga."
