Glaiza de Castro was unfazed by the comparison of her upcoming GMA-7 drama series Contessa to the now-defunct ABS-CBN afternoon drama series Wildflower, starring Maja Salvador.
Initial feedback from netizens noted how both shows center on female lead characters seeking revenge against those who have done them wrong.
Speaking to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Glaiza said that Contessa doesn’t have a political theme and has a different take on her character’s pursuit of justice.
“So, I think malayo dun sa tema nang Wildflower.
“So may element siyang revenge, yes.
“Kasi this is what the show is all about. Women empowerment, seeking for justice, fighting for what is right.”
Glaiza went on to say that her title role Contessa is inspired by the movie Count of Monte Cristo, a 2002 film that tells the story of betrayal and how lead character Edmond Dantès seeks justice when he escapes from imprisonment and amasses wealth from a successful treasure hunt.
“Umpisa pa lang, greatest challenge na yung pagkawala ng asawa niya on their wedding day. Tapos na-set up siya.
PEP and two other entertainment reporters interviewed Glaiza at the presscon for Kapuso Panagbenga 2018, held at Outlook Ridge Hotel in Baguio City last February 24.
DIFFICULTY WITH HEAVY DRAMA SCENES. Glaiza admitted that she had a hard time adjusting to the heavy drama scenes of the show.
The two-time PEP List Teleserye Actress awardee elaborated, “Umpisa pa lang ng araw mo iiyak ka na agad. Nasanay ako na may buwelo ako, e.
“Coming from Encantadia and The Rich Man’s Daughter, hindi naman ako palaging umiiyak.
There came a point when after doing crying scenes from morning until midnight, Glaiza fell asleep while reading lines with her director and leading man Jak Roberto.
Talking about her difficulties, she explained, “I don’t think isi-secret ko siya. It’s important that people know the process, kung anong dinadanas namin, kung gaano kahirap itong trabaho na ‘to.”
But Glaiza emphasized that she’s grateful that her co-stars and the production team behind Contessa have been really supportive of her.
The Kapuso actress went on to say that she’s giving this project her best shot no matter how difficult the challenges that she will encounter.
“BIG SHOES TO FILL.” Glaiza is grateful that the GMA-7 management has entrusted her with one big TV project after another.
She is also aware that there are high expectations for Contessa, which is replacing the timeslot of the consistently top-rating Kapuso series Ika-6 Na Utos.
“Kasi, isa rin sa kinakabahan kami, papalit kami sa Ika-6 Na Utos, which is a big shoes to fill.
With only few weeks to go before Contessa’s airing, Glaiza is confident that the whole cast and staff of the show will give another entertaining TV offering for Kapuso viewers.
Beaming, she added, “Kahit ano pa mangyari, magiging worth it yung risk or yung binigay ng GMA na opportunity na ito para sa amin.”
