Sunshine Cruz is excited for her role in the upcoming GMA-7 series Karibal Ko Ang Aking Ina.
In fact, she cited this as one of the reasons why she accepted the offer after doing several teleseryes in ABS-CBN since her showbiz comeback in 2013.
The former Kapamilya star said, "I'm thankful for the trust given to me by GMA, ang dami namang pwedeng iba pero para ma-consider ako for this role, I'm really very grateful and blessed.
That's Entertainment, GMA Supershow and it's nice to be back."
It was 19 years ago when Sunshine did her last TV series with the Kapuso network.
The show was titled L, a weekly series which aired in 1999 and was top-billed by Ruffa Gutierrez.
Sunshine recalled, "Sampalan din yun! Naalala ko yun that was before my wedding, yun yung isa sa mga nagawa ko na parang series with GMA.
"And then after that, 13 years nagpahinga, in 2013, yun yung nag-artista uli ako with ABS-CBN."
Her last project with ABS-CBN was the early prime-time series Wildflower, which aired from February 2017 to 2018.
In previous interviews, Sunshine's Wildflower co-stars Maja Salvador and Aiko Melendez expressed their support for Sunshine as she embarks on a new journey with a new network.
Sunshine said about this, "Love ako ng mga yan, e. At saka noong may offer ako dito, kasi very close kami nila Maja and nila Aiko, nagkakausap kami and I told them about the offer dito sa kabila.
"Sabi ko nga, I'm a single mom. I've always been thankful to ABS-CBN for all the projects na binibigay nila, but siyempre, nanay tayo, nag-iisa tayong kumakayod para sa mga anak natin.
It is always a blessing, work is work for me."
According to Sunshine, she and her manager Arnold Vegafria were able to speak with Kapamilya executives before accepting a project with Channel 7.
"I'm sure ABS also understands, nagpaalam din naman po ako ng maayos sa kanila. Ang aking manager, si ALV also spoke to Direk Lauren [Dyogi].
Sunshine and her Karibal Ko Ang Aking Ina co-stars Bea Binene and Benjamin Alves talked with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other select reporters during the press interviews at Lenox Hotel, Dagupan City last May 1.
They were some of the performers during the Kapuso Night of the Kapuso Pistay Dayat event held at Capitol Grounds in Lingayen, Pangasinan.
She said about her character in Karibal Ko Ang Aking Ina, "Sa isang isla ako nakatira na parang I fell in love with Zoren Legaspi tapos umalis siya, hindi ko alam na may nabuong baby. Basta this is very different, very intriguing."
The baby later grows up to be Bea, who will be Sunshine's rival for Benjamin's heart.
SAMPALAN SCENES. In an article published by GMANetwork.com, Karibal Ko Ang Aking Ina actress Bing Loyzaga said that viewers have to watch for plenty of catfight scenes between her and Sunshine.
As for Sunshine, she has yet to tape these "sampalan scenes" with Bing, who also makes a Kapuso comeback after nine years.
Sunshine also pointed out that aside from Bing, she will also have confrontation scenes with Bea and other characters.
"Magsasamapalan siyempre!
Kayang kaya!"
An airing date has yet to be announced for Karibal Ko Ang Aking Ina, although it is scheduled to be part of GMA's Afternoon Prime block.
