Mothers aren't always depicted on television to be perfect, endearing moms.
There are times when mothers become the villains in teleseryes.
At the end of each series, however, the core of these characters remained: being a mother to their children.
In fact, some of their villainous traits even make them relatable since Pinoy TV moms remind viewers that no one is perfect, and everyone is capable of making mistakes and learning from it.

Selina Matias (Mula Sa Puso)
Portrayed by: Princess Punzalan (1997), Eula Valdes (2011)Dubbed as the Philippines's version of Tormentor because of her nine lives, Selina Matias has always been known as the most evil kontrabida who made the life of the protagonist Via (Claudine Barretto/Lauren Young) miserable.
Selina has a daughter to her husband Ysmael (Efren Reyes, Jr./DJ Durano) named Nicole (Anna Larrucea/Sue Ramirez).
WHY WE HATE HER: Calling Selina evil is actually an understatement. In both installments. She plotted several ways to kill Via and get the riches of the Pereiras. The most popular one was when she planted a bomb inside a bus to kill Via.
WHY WE LOVE HER: Just like any mother, Selina would do everything for her child. In the 1997 version, Selina was so devastated when she saw the lifeless body of Nicole that she opened up her casket to hug her daughter for the last time. In the 2011 version, Selina got her biggest karma when Nicole was inside the bus that she blew up. When Selina learned about this, she immediately rushed inside the burning bus and sacrificed her life just to be with her daughter.

Pirena (Encantadia)
Portrayed by: Sunshine Dizon (2005), Glaiza de Castro (2016)Pirena is the eldest among the four Sang'gres of Lireo, and the keeper of the fire gem. She was able to conceive her child Mira (Yasmien Kurdi/Kate Valdez) and exchange her with the daughter of Amihan (Iza Calzado/Kylie Padilla).

WHY WE LOVE HER: Despite exchanging her child for Amihan's daughter, Pirena still showed unconditional love for Mira, and did everything to win her love back after the secret was revealed. Since then, Pirena gave all her love to Mira. In the 2016 version, Pirena even sacrificed herself and was punished after she violated a rule to save Mira's life.

Portrayed by: Aiko MelendezEmilia is the only daughter of the evil mayor Julio Ardiente (Tirso Cruz III). She has a son with her husband Raul (Wendell Ramos), who is Arnaldo (RK Bagatsing).
WHY WE HATE HER: She is a corrupt public official, and she doesn't give chances to anyone who wronged her. Instead, Emilia resorts to killing all her enemies. She manifests her love for Arnaldo by being overly protective of him, which started her intense rivalry with Lily (Maja Salvador).
WHY WE LOVE HER: She's willing to sacrifice for Arnaldo's sake and give him what he wants, even if it means forcing herself to want Lily and learn to like her.

Claudia Buenavista (Pangako Sa 'Yo)
Portrayed by: Jean Garcia (2000), Angelica Panganiban (2015)Claudia is the rich mother of Angelo Buenavista (Jericho Rosales/Daniel Padilla) who did everything just to keep away her son from their maid Yna Macaspac (Kristine Hermosa/Kathryn Bernardo). She is also the archenemy of Amor Powers (Eula Valdes/Jodi Sta. Maria).
WHY WE HATE HER: Claudia won't allow anyone to get in her way, even if it means killing her enemies. She is also disgusted by poor people and treated them like trash.
WHY WE LOVE HER: She has unconditional love for their children, despite projecting herself as selfish. She had undeniable love for Angelo and her younger daughter Lian and as a mother, Claudia was willing to take a bullet to save her children.

Amanda Alegre-Cruz (The Greatest Love)
Portrayed by: Dimples RomanaAmanda is the eldest daughter of Gloria Alegre (Sylvia Sanchez) who harbors ill feelings towards her mother. She is the mother of Z (Joshua Garcia).
WHY WE HATE HER: Her ill feelings resulted into disrespect towards her mother, to the point of hurting her. At one instance, she even asked Z to stay away from her lola.
WHY WE LOVE HER: While some cannot stand how she treated her mother, everyone still understood her because of where she's coming from. Amanda is also the type of mother who works hard for her child just to send him to a good school.

Beatrice Marasigan (Ina Kapatid Anak)
Portrayed by: Janice De BelenBeatrice has always wanted to become a mother but unfortunately, she cannot bear a child. She resorted to surrogacy, with her sister Teresa (Cherry Pie Picache) as the surrogate mother. The process of surrogacy bore twins: Celyn (Kim Chiu) and Margaux (Maja Salvador).
WHY WE HATE HER: Beatrice is selfish. She has always seen Teresa as her rival for the attention of Celyn and Margaux. Her strictness also affected her children to the point that they have no freedom.
WHY WE LOVE HER: Beatrice is strict with a reason. Being a perfectionist, she had high standards for her children. But then, she only wanted her children to be the best that they can be, so that they won't fail the expectations of her father Lucas (Eddie Gutierrez).

Betty Carreon (Impostora)
Portrayed by: Jean GarciaBetty is the rich, sophisticated mother of Vanessa (Sunshine Dizon) who is used to getting what she wants.
WHY WE HATE HER: Betty always makes fun of poor people and treat them like trash. Her main concern is to get all the riches in the world so that she can live a happy, powerful life.
WHY WE LOVE HER: Betty's dreams of having a lot of money is also for her daughter Vanessa, so that they don't need to depend on other people.

Portayed by: Cherry Pie PicacheIsadora is the "biglang-yamang" mother of Miguel (Diether Ocampo) and Sophia (Melissa Ricks). She married a rich man to provide for her wants and the needs of her children.
WHY WE HATE HER: Her greed for money led to evil doings, even to the point of hiding Catherine (Claudine Barretto) inside a hospital's basement just so Miguel can marry the rich Scarlet (Angelica Panganiban).
WHY WE LOVE HER: Despite her greed, Isadora was still a good mother. She always showed unconditional love for Miguel and Sophia. In fact, during the last episode, Isadora blocked a grenade to save her children from death.

Miranda Salazar-Hidalgo (Ikaw Lamang)
Portrayed by: Cherie GilMiranda is the rich wife of Eduardo Hidalgo (Tirso Cruz III), the town governor of Salvacion. She is the mother of Franco (Jake Cuenca).
WHY WE HATE HER: Miranda let Eduardo take the responsibility for raising Franco even though he is not the real father of her child. Despite this, Miranda won't let Eduardo take care of his own son Samuel (Coco Martin).
WHY WE LOVE HER: Miranda loves Franco with all her heart and she did everything to make him happy, even if it means sacrificing her life. However, Miranda met a bitter end when she tried to save her father Maximo (Ronaldo Valdez) against his enemy and she ended up being shot by her own father.

Portrayed by: Jaclyn JoseDonya Charito is the matriarch of the Carbonels. Ziggy (Gabby Eigenmann) is her only child.
WHY WE HATE HER: She doesn't watch her words and often insults poor people. Perlita (Sunshine Dizon) has always become the victim of Charito's harshness.
WHY WE LOVE HER: Charito always expresses her frankness with wit. She also makes sure to defend Ziggy and her grandchild Marilyn (Louise delos Reyes).

Adelaida Angeles (Hindi Ko Kayang Iwan Ka)
Portrayed by: Gina AlajarAdel is the mother of Marco (Mike Tan) who disliked his wife Thea (Yasmien Kurdi) right from the start of their relationship.
WHY WE HATE HER: Adel hated Thea so much that she always lied to her son and make it seem like Thea is always wrong and he does not deserve her.
WHY WE LOVE HER: Just like any mother, Adel only wanted the best for her son. She always showed unconditional love for her grandchildren. Unfortunately, Adel has yet to show care for Thea.

Portrayed by: Zsa Zsa PadillaHelena is the mother of Emilia (Aiko Melendez). Also known by her alter-ego "Red Dragon," she is the head of a criminal syndicate.
WHY WE HATE HER: Cunning and scheming, Helena became one of Lily Cruz's (Maja Salvador) worst enemies. She used her henchmen to attempt the murder of Lily and her family.
WHY WE LOVE HER: Despite her businesses and illegal doings, Helena still made time for her daughter Emilia to make up for the time that they were supposed to be together. She pampered Emilia and gave everything that she wanted.

Portrayed by: Dina BonnevieMalena is the wife of Mayor Enrique (Albert Martinez) who would do everything to prove herself to her husband. She is the mother of Stella (Maja Salvador) and Rico (Timothy Lambert Chan).
WHY WE HATE HER: Malena's scheming deeds caused the death of Santino's (Zaijian Jaranilla) biological mother. Malena has always shown hatred towards the child and kept the truth from him.
WHY WE LOVE HER: Malena has unconditional love for her children Stella and Rico, and she always makes sure that they are doing well.

Portrayed by: Chin Chin GutierrezCorazon Berenguer is the matriarch of the Roxas family's shipping business. Married to a deceased seaman, she is the mother of JB (Sam Milby).
WHY WE HATE HER: Corazon is stiff and straight-forward, which makes her intimidating to others. She hates JB's girlfriend Celine, because of the latter's reputation of being a party girl, flirty, and an illegitimate child.
WHY WE LOVE HER: Corazon had her own struggles, especially while growing up being envious towards her sister Gloria (Glenda Garcia). Despite all these, Corazon never showed her weakness but still made sure that her son JB is doing well in life.

Portrayed by: Helen GamboaDona Margaret is the sophisticated, rich mother of Marco (Richard Gomez) who will do everything just to maintain her riches and her status in life.
WHY WE HATE HER: Margaret is scheming and disdainful. She does not want to mingle with people who do not have the same status as her. Margaret is also selfish and her sister Genia (Susan Roces) always sacrificed for her.
WHY WE LOVE HER: Margaret makes sure that Marco is always doing well even though she himdered her son's relationship with Emily (Dawn Zulueta). In the end, Margaret realized that money is not important, but her relationship with her son is more valuable.
