GMA-7's prime-time series The Cure is now on its last three weeks.
This was announced through the show's teaser aired on July 9.
Dubbed as the "Viral Finale," the teaser showed that Charity (Jennylyn Mercado) believes that her husband Greg (Tom Rodriguez) is still alive.
Darius (Mark Herras) tries to convince her that Greg is really dead.
The teaser also showed the characters of Kylie Padilla and Ruru Madrid arguing over an experiment for normal people with the cure to save everyone from the epidemic.
Since The Cure is down to its last three weeks, it will air its final episode on July 27.
It may be recalled that last May 8, during the second week of The Cure, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal)'s PEP Alerts column published a report from PEP Troika that this sci-fi-themed series might be axed after six weeks of airing.
That was in line of the so-called "six week policy" of GMA-7, where shows of the Kapuso Network are given a minimum run of six weeks before they are able to enjoy a full-season run or an extension.
If the show won't perform well in the first week in terms of ratings, another week will be given to allow the show to gain momentum.
However, if the program won't get the target rating by its second week, it will end by its sixth week.
Minutes after the PEP Alerts report was published, GMA Vice President for Corporate Communications Angel Javier-Cruz told PEP.ph through a phone call that The Cure will continue its "normal run," and that it wouldn't be cut short.
In the Philippines, a show usually runs for one season or 13 weeks.
In a separate interview with PEP.ph during the show's April 17 press conference, director Mark Reyes already said that The Cure won't have a long run, unlike other teleseryes that run for more than three months.
Direk Mark said back then, "It’s one of the series na sabi ko, let’s not make it long. I think it should not have a long duration.
"If it does, it’s probably gonna be extended for a few more weeks, pero I don't see it."
GMA-7 has yet to officially announce which show will replace The Cure.
However, showbiz insiders believe that Alden Richards's Victor Magtanggol will occupy the slot that will be vacated by The Cure, which is after 24 Oras.
