The Clash winner Golden Canedo once joined ABS-CBN's Tawag ng Tanghalan contest on It's Showtime.

Did you know that before Golden Canedo won GMA-7's The Clash, she was once a contestant of the "Tawag ng Tanghalan" segment in ABS-CBN's It's Showtime?

Golden's appearance in "Tawag ng Tanghalan" happened in October 2017. Using the name "Roma Golden Apa-Ap" back then, she performed Jona's version of "Pusong Ligaw."

However, Golden did not win during her "Tawag ng Tanghalan" stint.

A few months later, she auditioned for GMA-7's The Clash. The young girl was hailed as the Ultimate Clash Champion on September 30, 2018.

When PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked if The Clash was her first televised singing contest, she answered, "Sumali din po ako pero hindi po ako pinalad," referring to the ABS-CBN program.

PEP.ph and other media reporters spoke to Golden after the grand finals of The Clash held at Studio 7 of GMA Network.

SARAH GERONIMO OF GMA-7?

Earlier in the competition, some viewers were already posting on Twitter to tag Golden Canedo as the look-alike of Sarah Geronimo.

How does Golden feel about these observations?

She said with a smile, "Happy po ako dahil parang pinahawig po ako sa idolo ko po na si Sarah G na sobrang galing po at saka sobrang sikat, kaya po nagpapasalamat din po ako na nakikita nila si Sarah G sa akin."

Does she feel any pressure being compared to Sarah, who is a very popular singer-actress of ABS-CBN?

The 16-year-old singer candidly answered, "Hindi naman po kasi, di ba po, mas magaling po siya, alam po natin. Mas nacha-challenge po ako na mas pagbutihin po kasi nakikita po nila ako na Sarah G."

Here are some netizens' tweets regarding Golden's similarities with Sarah:

WINNING THE CLASH

Prior to being part of the Top 5, Golden experienced being in the danger zone of the competition several times already. Her latest incident took place last Saturday, September 29, the episode before the finals.

Golden said about this, "Kinabahan po ako, sinabi ko sa sarili ko baka makauwi na po ako sa Cebu, parang yung pagod ko hindi po nagbunga, kaya pray lang po ako ng pray."

But yesterday, it took a different turn for Golden when she was chosen to clash with Jong Madaliday for the final round.

It took a while before the winner was revealed, since the first few parts of the competition were already taped, and they waited for the live telecast for the announcement of the grand champion.

"Nag-pray lang po talaga ako tapos parang fineel ko lang po talaga yung mga sinasabi ng tao na 'Go Golden!'

"Pero happy naman po ako dahil sa Top 62, dalawa na lang po kami na natira para sa pagiging Clash champion, happing-happy po ako kahit hindi ako maging champion, at least nakasali ako sa Matira Matibay [round]."

How did Golden and Jong deal with the long hours of waiting for the announcement?

"Nagtawanan lang po kami, tapos sabi niya kahit daw po sinong manalo sa amin, balato daw P50,000.

"Sabi ko, 'Huy, P50,000, ha. Tapos nag-pinky swear pa po kami!"

For her prize, Golden won an exclusive contract with GMA-7, a brand new car, a house and lot from Bria Homes, and P1 million pesos.

After The Clash, Golden will be part of the variety program Studio 7, along with the other Top 5 Clashers.
