The Cinema One 2018 entry Fisting gets into trouble with the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). This film, which stars Jasmine Curtis-Smith, is now known by its new title: Never Tear Us Apart.

Due to the uproar aroused by its suggestive title, the movie Fisting undergoes a title change.

Starring Jasmine Curtis-Smith and Ricky Davao, the film Fisting is now known as Never Tear Us Apart.

This movie is one of the official entries to the 2018 Cinema One Originals Film Festival, which will run from October 12 to 21.

Director Whammy Alcazaren announced this during the press conference of Cinema One Originals 2018 held last October 2 at the ABS-CBN compound.

In response to the negative reactions to the word “fisting,” the filmmaker and producer Cinema One decided to use the subtitle of the film as its new title.

Direk Whammy explained during the press con: "We're changing the title as a sign of respect to the community. We do understand that it's not for everyone and we have to think of the community."

The Facebook page of the movie announced that day: “‘Never Tear Us Apart’ is the new title of Whammy Alcazaren’s third film as requested by Cinema One Originals.”

In a previous interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Jasmine revealed that she plays a dominatrix in Never Tear Us Apart. She said that her character becomes involved with a married man (played by Ricky Davao).

A dominatrix is a woman who takes the dominant role in activities involving BDSM: either bondage and discipline (B&D), dominance and submission (D&S), or sadism & masochism (S&M).

In the trailer of the film, Jasmine can be seen wearing an all-black leather ensemble. She looks on as Ricky takes off his long-sleeved polo in front of her.

Meryll Soriano is cast as the wife of Ricky's character.

Never Tear Us Apart revolves around an aging spy, his delusional wife, and their promiscuous son. They are driven into madness as they confront the terrors caused by the monster known as The Shadow.

During the press conference, Cinema One festival director Ronald Arguelles also released a formal statement regarding this issue.

"As much as possible, we want to protect and allow the expression of our artists. The freedom to open discourse is the standard of a healthy community. However, there comes a point when we need to responsive and responsible to the whole community.

"Therefore, we are performing steps to address the issue. Sensitive steps are taken to navigate the situation carefully. Thus, the change of title and collaterals.

"We encourage fearless and daring projects but not at the expense of our corporate social and moral responsibility. ABS-CBN Films, which Cinema One Originals belongs to, is in the service of the Filipino people first and foremost.”

The producers of this Cinema One entry recently received a warning from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

A memorandum issued by the MTRCB indicated that publicity materials of Fisting were not submitted to the agency for "appropriate review and classification."

The MTRCB also pointed out that all promotional materials must be suitable for general audiences.

In its memorandum, the MTRCB released a statement regarding the circulation of the film’s trailer:

"Section 3, Chapter IV of Presidential Decree No. 1986 provides that trailers and publicity materials for movie and television programs must strictly be made suitable for a GENERAL AUDIENCE ("G") classification.

"Thus, we assure the public that materials which do not fall within the "G" classification of the publicity materials shall not be approved for exhibition in a moviehouse, broadcast in television, publication in print media and exposure in other related media."

Cinema One 2018 entries will be shown from October 12 - 21 at the following cinemas: Trinoma, Glorietta, Gateway, Powerplant Mall, Santolan Town Plaza, SM Megamall, SM North EDSA, SM Sta. Mesa, SM Manila, UP Cine Adarna, FDCP Cinematheque Manila, Cinema '76 in San Juan, Black Maria Cinema in Mandaluyong, and Cinema Centenario in Quezon City.
