After 20 years, Regine Velasquez has officially left GMA-7.
The singer-actress announced her goodbyes during her last episode in the Saturday morning talk show Sarap Diva, which aired its anniversary episode earlier today, October 13.
Following her last episode in the talk show today, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) received an official statement from GMA-7's Senior Vice President for Entertainment Lilybeth G. Rasonable about Regine's departure, through GMA Corporate Communications Vice President Angel Javier-Cruz.
According to Rasonable, the network understands Regine's decision to join her husband, Ogie Alcasid, who is now a contract artist of rival network ABS-CBN.
The statement read in full:
"After two decades, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid has officially said her goodbyes to the Kapuso Network.
"We understand her decision to join her husband and we wish her well as she pursues other opportunities outside GMA Network."
Regine, on the other hand, has yet to officially announce her transfer to ABS-CBN.
Yesterday, October 12, The Filipino Channel Australia issued a press release about Regine's upcoming guest appearance in the Kapamilya musical-variety program ASAP on October 20, during its ASAP in Sydney show.
Regine also promoted her upcoming appearance on her Instagram account.
The Asia's Songbird first officially joined GMA-7 in 1998, when she became a regular host and performer of the defunct musical-variety program SOP.
Since then, Regine did several hosting jobs for reality competitions such as Search For a Star (2004), Pinoy Pop Superstar (2005), and most recently, The Clash (2018).
She also topbilled teleseryes like Forever In My Heart (2004), Ako Si Kim Sam Soon (2008), Diva (2010), and Poor Señorita (2016).
Regine first signed an exclusive contract artist with the Kapuso network in 2008, after her aborted transfer to ABS-CBN.
