Twenty-two years after their last dramatic movie together titled Ikaw Pala Ang Mahal Ko (1997), real-life couple Ariel Rivera and Gelli de Belen are back on the big screen.
This time, they topbill Ang Sikreto ng Piso, a family-oriented comedy film produced by MPJ Entertainment Productions and JPP Dreamworld Productions.
In an interview recently, Gelli was asked how she felt about the reunion of Ariel and Regine Velasquez in ASAP, especially when their duet with Ariel was well-applauded.
It is no secret that Ariel and Regine once had a fling together.
“Sus!” Gelli reacted with a laugh, dismissing what clearly was in the past.
She is even open to the idea of the three of them working together.
“I guess, why not?” she said, but with a condition.
“Basta ako ang kakanta. Bahala na kayo.
"Basta ako ang kakanta,” she quipped.
Meanwhile, Ang Sikreto ng Piso (The Secret of the Philippine Peso) is inspired by actual events during the time when the Philippine peso coin became the center of a smuggling scandal in 2006.
In the story, Ronnie (Ariel Rivera) makes sacrifices to save up for the future of his wife (Gelli de Belen) and only daughter.
He is forced to accept an odd job that promises higher income--one that requires him to gather as much one-peso coins has he could.
It is only a matter of time before he discovers that these coins are being smuggled abroad for their precious metal.
Directed by Perry Escaño, this movie opens in cinemas today, January 30 (Wednesday).
