1st MTRCB TV Awards winners bared

Among those who personally received their trophies during the 1st MTRCB TV Awards were Zaijian Jaranilla (bottom left frame) and Jessica Soho (bottom right frame). The ABS-CBN young actor (who was even carried by Ryan Agoncillo just so he could give his speech) received the Special Award for Promoting Moral Values while the GMA-7 broadcaster was named as Best Female Host.

GMA-7 and ABS-CBN received six awards each during the recently concluded MTRCB TV Awards held last September 4 at the Gateway Cinema 5 in Quezon City. TV5 was able to bag three awards while QTV 11, Studio 23 and Net 25 were honored with one trophy each.

Movie and Television Review and Classification Board Chairperson Consoliza Laguardia told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) the goal of this awards night. "Through this, we're hoping to encourage the networks to come up with shows and programs that are not just entertaining but with values as well—that's very important."

It was revealed that the shortlist of nominees came solely from the submitted entries by the TV networks. The government-created regulatory board chose the winners based on the following criteria: redeeming values, social responsibility, acceptability, and moral accountability.

The formal event was hosted by Edu Manzano and MTRCB board member Jackie Aquino.
