From a glossy morning talk show to an animal talent-magazine program. Sounds like an odd change of pace, right?
"I actually find it interesting," answered Gelli de Belen when she met the members of the entertainment press last February 23, at the press conference of her latest show with GMA-7, Zooperstars.
The former Sis—the defunct morning show Gelli used to co-hosts with sister Janice and good friend Carmina Villaroel—mainstay likewise confessed being fascinated by the novelty nature of her latest project.
Added Gelli, "Naaaliw ako kasi parang spectator din ako. We've only done two episodes and so far aliw na aliw ako. Akala mo naman nanunood ako with the audience."
Zooperstars aim to highlight pets and animals by showcasing their talents and abilities. But what makes the show more appealing were the segments featuring pets and their devoted owners.
Some of the worth-watching features include a "painting pig" and a spoiled Achilles Tang Fish with round-the-clock air conditioner and maid service. There's also Ava, a rich Shih Tzu who threw a grand birthday celebration for the benefit of cats.
A "Lost Pet and Found" bulletin will allow owners to post information about their missing pets. The show will document successful searches showing heartwarming reunions inside the studio between pet and owner.
Animal trivia abound with "Pet Files," a segment conceptualized to impart knowledge to viewers. There's also "Zooprise" where audience will be amazed to discover astonishing facts like a fish with bones that would not bend or a guinea pig with hair as sharp as that of porcupine.
Joining Gelli in Zooperstars—which will premiere this Sunday, February 28, 11:15 to 11:45 a.m.—are her Panday Kids co-stars Julian Trono and Sabrina Man.
