Wowowee co-hosts bid a tearful farewell sans Willie Revillame

Wowowee co-hosts (from left) Kelly Misa, Jed Montero, Luis Manzano, Mariel Rodriguez, Valerie Concepcion, Pokwang and Saicy Aguila were in tears as ABS-CBN’s noontime show aired its final episode earlier today, July 30.

It was a mix of emotions for everyone at Wowowee this afternoon, July 30, as ABS-CBN’s noontime show bade goodbye to its viewers here and abroad.

And the most important person noticeably absent was its main host Willie Revillame, who has been on "indefinite leave" from the show ever since he had an outburst on the May 4 episode of ABS-CBN’s noontime show. Willie threatened to resign from his noontime show if management did not to fire Jobert Sucaldito for criticizing him via his radio show and tabloid column.

Starting tomorrow, July 31, viewers will get to watch the Kapamilya Network’s new noontime show titled Pilipinas, Win na Win! It will be hosted by Kris Aquino and Robin Padilla together with Mariel Rodriguez, Valerie Concepcion, and Pokwang.

Mariel read a statement that expressed the sentiments of the whole team behind Wowowee. Standing beside her were Luis Manzano, Pokwang, Valerie Kelly Misa and Jed Montero.

Sa ABS-CBN management, thank you much.

"Direk Bobot Mortiz, thank you much. Sa lahat ng naging floor directors, Kuya Owen, Kuya Rene, Kuya Alex, from the bottom of our heart, thank you. Sa mga business unit heads po namin, Ms.Alou [Almaden], Sir Jay [Montelibano], Ma’am Phoebe [Anievas], thank you so much.

"At higit sa lahat, sa iyo Kuya Wil," which was met with applause.

TEARFUL START. During the opening number of the program, the hosts and dancers were noticeably trying to hold back their tears knowing that this was the last time that they would be doing the song-and-dance segment of the program that has enlivened the studio audience over the years. Audience members were also showing placards saying "thank you" to the camera.

Mariel tried to lighten up the situation by giving blind items about her co-host Pokwang.

"Sino itong co-host sa isang noontime show na nangako na walang ke-kiyeme-do pero umpisa pa lang, may hawak na na tissue," she said.

To which Pokwang only replied, "Pla-ngak!"

Mariel added another blind item by asking: "Sino itong host sa isang noontime show na namumula ang ilong. Alam ko Kremil-S ang [endorsement] niya bakit parang may sipon," she said with a laugh and then the camera showed Luis Manzano holding a tissue and wiping away his tears.

The female co-hosts of Wowowee and Pooh proceded to do the segment "Cash Mo ’To," which gave away a record setting prize of P90,900 to a lucky woman from Sta. Ana, Manila. Pooh even assisted the woman in gathering cash in the giant chamber.

Comedian Chokoleit also dropped by during the "HepHep Hooray" game portion, thanking everyone for letting him become part of the show.

Mariel, Luis, and Pokwang tried to make the mood light when it came to the "Questune" game portion.

Mariel was thrust in the spotlight when Luis and Pokwang egged Mariel to give a sample of her singing talent.

"Huwag mo akong ipapahiya," Pokwang whispered through her mic.

"Meron akong nais malaman..." and the faces of Luis and Pokwang looked sad when they heard Mariel sing the first line of Ogie Alcasid’s song titled "Nandito Ako."

Even the songs selected for this segment were sad songs that connoted good-bye. It was bittersweet when one of the answers was the song "What a Wonderful World," which Mariel said was a favorite song that was peformed abroad.

It’s truly a wonderful world dahil sa inyo. Maraming, maraming salamat po," said a teary eyed Mariel.

More tears flowed when the song "Unang Pasko" was being played and everyone was holding on to a tissue and wiping their tears away, including the dancers and production staff.

The dancers were also emotional and holding back their tears during the "Cash Bukas" game portion. One of them who had to deliver a line was stuttering and in near tears. Pokwang stared at her hoping to throw a punch line but contained herself and cried with her, too.

TRIBUTE TO LUCKY. After a commercial break, Wowowee hosts and staff gave a tribute to special guest co-host Luis Manzano who has been hosting the show for the past two months.

Pero for the past two months meron tayong nakasama na talagang makulit, masaya, at higit sa lahat, napakagaling.

That’s all I can do, that’s all I want to do. Unang-una, salamat sa Panginoon for this blessing not just yung kaya ko po mag-host pero this blessing, lahat po ng nakikita ko ngayon, lahat po ng nandito ngayon, blessing po kayo ngayon sa akin. I would like to thank the ABS-CBN management for believing in me. Sir Jay, Ms. Phoebe, direk. Sa lahat-lahat po, Direk Bobot, Thank you very much po.

"Tito Willie, thank you very much po. I really appreciate that po."

Luis then thanked all his co-hosts who have supported him.

Jed Montero and Kelly Misa, who came aboard as new co-hosts of Wowowee and who will not be retained into the next noontime show, also gave their messages of gratitude.

After the break, Mariel was tasked to read the statement prepared in behalf of the team.

As a tribute to host Willie Revillame they played a video montage of the show and his song, "Ikaw Na Nga."

"Kuya Willie, thank you so much. Maraming, maraming salamat po, from the bottom of our hearts. Maraming, maraming salamat. Mahal na mahal ka namin. Thank you, kuya.

Yung mga TFC subscribers, saan man sulok ng mundo, thank you so much. Thank you for making us a part of your life. Thank you. We love you," said Mariel Rodriguez as the final episode of Wowowee ended.
