Angel Aquino, Michael V and five other entries nominated in Asian TV Awards

In the Asian TV Awards, Angel Aquino (left) is nominated as Best Actress in a Supporting Role for playing Vera in Magkaribal. Just like last year, Michael V (right) is nominated for Pepito Manaloto in the category Best Comedy Performance by an Actor / Actress.

Seven entries from the Philippines will compete in six categories of this year’s Asian TV Awards (ATA).

Three nominations went to TV5 while ABS-CBN and GMA-7 both received two nominations in the annual event that aims to "recognize excellence in programming, production and performance" in Asian television.

Two Filipino shows are competing in the Best General Entertainment category: GMA-7’s Mind Master and TV5’s Talentadong Pinoy.

Mind Master is a reality program featuring astonishing acts of Pinoy mentalist Nomer Lasala while Talentadong Pinoy is a talent search hosted by Ryan Agoncillo. Their shows are up against six other programs from Thailand, Japan, and Singapore.

Angel Aquino was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role as Vera in ABS-CBN’s Magkaribal (which was listed in the ATA website as Rivals). Angel will compete against six other actresses from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

In the Best Comedy Performance by an Actor / Actress category, Michael V has been chosen to compete for his comedy show on GMA-7 titled Pepito Manaloto. Michael V was nominated in this same category last year but he failed to take home the trophy. He competes against five other comedians from Singapore, Hong Kong, and Malaysia.

For the Best Comedy Programme, TV5’s Lokomoko was shortlisted along with shows from Singapore, India, and Malaysia.

ABS-CBN’s The Bottomline with Boy Abunda is nominated in the Best Talk Show category along with programs from Malaysia, Singapore, India, and Hong Kong.

The Philippines also earned a nomination in the Best Theme Song category for Boy Christopher Ramos’ rendition of "Ito Ang Buhay ko." This song was used in TV5’s drama anthology Star Confessions.

Last year, the Philippines also bagged seven nominations but none of them won in their respective categories. However, GMA-7’s 24 Oras was "highly commended" for its Maguindanao Massacre coverage in the Best News Program category.

The awards night of the Asian Television Awards will take place on December 8, 2011 in Singapore.
