Joey de Leon says he is open to working again at ABS-CBN

When Kris Aquino asked Joey de Leon if he could see himself working at the Kapamilya network in 2012, Joey replied, "Ako, oo, kahit ngayon, e."

On November 25, funny man Joey de Leon made a historic special appearance on Kris TV, Kris Aquino’s morning talk show on ABS-CBN.

Joey, who is part of the popular comedic trio of Tito, Vic and Joey, is one of the main hosts of popular noontime show Eat Bulaga! on rival network, GMA-7.

Talk show host Kris Aquino excitedly introduced Joey saying, "Idol ko siya, Joey de Leon!" Loud cheers and applause greeted the popular comedian-host.

Joey then gave the TV host-actress a copy of the coffee table book, Ang Unang Tatlong Dekada, which documents the first three decades of Eat Bulaga!

PNOY THANKS JOEY. In return, Kris played a recorded video message from her brother, President Noynoy Aquino, thanking Joey for his efforts to improve education in the country.

AGAPP FOUNDATION. Unknown to the public, the multi-talented comedian and his family actively took part in the community project AGAPP Foundation [Aklat Gabay Aruga Tungo sa Pag-Angat at Pag-Asa] led by presidential sister Pinky Abellada and other Aquino siblings.

Joey helped build classrooms under the foundation’s "Silid Pangarap" program that largely benefited the Grace Park Caloocan School in Caloocan City.

Joey told Kris: "Si Ate Pinky mo, Magkapitbahay kami niyan.

Meron daw boxes na galing sa States, kompleto—imported na Play-Doh [modeling clay for children], may mga coloring books, crayons and toys for each of the children."

PREVIOUS APPEARANCE. Joey and Kris then reminisced about the last appearance of Joey in an ABS-CBN show way back in 2003.

"Ang huli kong pinuntahang show dito sa ABS-CBN, yung show ninyo ni Korina," said Joey, referring to Morning Girls with Kris and Korina.

We were in a restaurant..."

Kris then admitted that she is a fan of Joey’s Sunday column published in a leading broadsheet.

CAREER SECRETS. Through hard work and talent, comedian-TV host Joey worked his way to the top. To date, his showbiz career spans over thirty years.

Kris praised Joey by saying, "To still be around since the 1960s is truly amazing."

Joey started working for ABS-CBN as a radio deejay in the ’60s.

"Dito sa ABS-CBN, I worked here 1968. Inabot ko pa lolo ni Gabby [Gabby Lopez III who is currently the CEO of ABS-CBN.]

"Sweldo namin noon...P200 a month. Ginawa kaming permanent. Matindi: naging P210," he recalled.

From working as a radio deejay, he eventually ventured into acting, hosting and writing.

Together with Tito and Vic Sotto, they formed the noontime variety show Eat Bulaga! which debuted on Philippine television on July 30, 1979.

Kris asked him pointblank: "E, di medyo rich ka na?"

Joey simply replied, "Hindi. Masipag ako. Kita mo, kung magtrabaho ako. Masarap matulog pag pagod."

Apart from hosting Eat Bulaga! the comedian-host has two more shows on the Kapuso network. He considers himself a "kalagari" because he has other shows outside GMA-7.

According to Kris, "hosting is difficult. Joey makes it seem easy."

The multi-talented host turned 65 this year and appears to be much younger than his actual age.

Kris, amazed at Joey’s youthful appearance, wanted to know his "secret."

He revealed that the TVJ [Tito, Vic and Joey] secret is "di kami nagme-make-up since day 1 ng Eat Bulaga!"

FATHER ROLE IN MOVIE. Apart from his hosting assignments, Joey took time out and agreed to be part of an upcoming movie.

He played an "aging rocker of a father" in Won’t Last a Day Without You. The film, which is topbilled by Sarah Geronimo and Gerald Anderson, will open in cinemas by November 30.

Joey’s co-star in the movie, Gerald, joined him on the November 25 episode of Kris TV.

The young actor has immense admiration for the comedian-TV host. In good humor, he recalled, "Sobra akong na-star struck...di ako nakapag-focus.

Joey, on the other hand, said of Gerald ’Ok ’to. Kung sa pelikula, may ginawa kaming kanta. Game siya.’"

In a taped interview, Joey’s "daughter" in the movie, Sarah Geronimo, had only praises for the comedian-host.

She said,"Tito Joey, maraming-maraming salamat po for accepting this project.

Joey replied, "Ako, oo, kahit ngayon, e.

"Baka movie ulit, baka sakali.

"May Protégé pa ako, baka pagkatapos ng Protégé."

Given the chance, who would he want to work with?

The comedian-TV host said, "Kahit mag-isa ako, wala akong problema...baka pa sa movies pa ulit. Depende sa project."

Kris also asked: "How about a game show? Judge?

Joey said with a smile, "Bakit hindi?"
