Philippine Idol hopefuls (L-R) Jan Nieto, Mau Marcelo, and Gian Magdangal compete for P1M in cash, a recording contract with Sony-BMG, and a management contract with FremantleMedia.

Six months ago, Gian Magdangal was working as a marketing events officer in a telecommunications company, Mau Marcelo was a band singer in Lucena, and Jan Nieto was a customer marketing manager in one of the top companies in the country.

This weekend their lives will be changed forever as they perform before thousands at Araneta Coliseum and millions of viewers nationwide in their quest to become the first-ever Philippine Idol.

For the performance night on December 9, the three Idol hopefuls will perform three songs: one is their own choice, one is chosen by the judges, and one is chosen by Sony-BMG. All three singers will be accompanied by the San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra.

For their chosen piece, Gian is going with "The Impossible Dream," Mau picks Mariah Carey's "Love Takes Time," and Jan tries "Say That You Love Me" by his idol Martin Nievera.

For the final-results night on December 10, viewers will decide who among Gian, Mau, and Jan deserves to be called the first Philippine Idol, and who will go on to receive P1M in cash, plus a recording contract with Sony-BMG and a management contract with Fremantle Media, the Idol franchise owner.
