Jennylyn Mercado admits "steady lang" relationship with Dennis Trillo in YES! magazine

Feb 20, 2016
The March 2016 issue of YES! features Jennylyn Mercado on the cover, plus Rachelle Anne Go's journey as a theater star and her travels and Liza Soberano's debut.

In the comfort of her new Quezon City home, YES! March 2016 cover star Jennylyn Mercado talks about the current state of her life as a rom-com sensation, single mom, and hopeful romantic.

Jennylyn confesses she's not a comedian at heart. She’s just influenced by her many humorous gay friends.

"Iyong mga bakla, di ba, ang sarap kasama?" she laughs. "Iyong humor nila iba. Happy!"

And that’s how happy her performances turned out in the string of hit romantic comedies she topbilled for the past two years: English Only, Please (with Derek Ramsay); The PreNup (with Sam Milby); and #Walang Forever (with Jericho Rosales).

Next on that list is the rom-com that Jennylyn is co-starring with John Lloyd Cruz, whom she calls her “ultimate crush.”

"Kinakabahan nga po ako, e," she admits.

"Iyong talagang hindi ko alam kung paano ako aarte sa harap niya."

Needless to say, the lovely and congenial star aims to build a harmonious working relationship with John Lloyd, just like what she’s done with her past leading men Derek, Sam, and Jericho.

"Inaalam ko iyong gusto nilang gawin," she says, citing Sam’s musical inclinations as an example.

"Para pag kinausap ko sila, alam ko kung ano iyong kiliti nila. Para maganda iyong foundation. Kasi wala pa naman po akong nagiging katrabaho na hindi kami nagpapansinan kapag off-cam, 'tapos saka lang kami aarte.

"Kasi parang ang hirap. Ang feeling ko, parang hindi totoo.

"Gusto ko iyong totoo, totoong nag-uusap tayo. Hindi iyong artista lang, trabaho lang. Para mas masarap magtrabaho.”

Speaking of work, Jennylyn completed two movies, a drama series, a solo concert, and several product endorsements last year.

Her motivation: her seven-year-old son Alex Jazz.

She’s so devoted to the boy she has nicknamed Jazz, which is why she’s working hard and saving up for his future.

"Kaya hirap din akong mag-decide kung kailangan ko na ba?" she says, referring to having a love life. “Hindi, kailangan niya muna ako. Focused muna sa kanya."

Jennylyn admits to dating Dennis Trillo, her leading man in her last soap My Faithful Husband and her former flame whom she had a painful breakup the first time around.

But she’s practicing caution this time.

"Ayaw na lang naming i-broadcast, kasi ano, e—gusto na lang namin, tahimik na lang. Gano'n. Kasi ang hirap, e."

The tactic maybe be working because Jennylyn describes her love life now as "steady lang" and "kalmado lang."

OTHER THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO. Aside from Jennylyn, YES! also has a feature on five other strong-willed and successful women: Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, singer-turned-theater actress Rachelle Ann Go, teen star Liza Soberano of the hit teleserye Dolce Amore, young wife and mom Yasmien Kurdi, and budding fashion designer Heart Evangelista.

Incidentally, March 8 is the International Women’s Day.

YES! has a coverage of Pia’s recent homecoming and Liza’s 18th birthday bash.

The magazine also has a collection of Rachelle’s triumphs as a cast member of Miss Saigon then and now, of Les Miserables, as well as her many travels.

Another interesting read is Yasmien’s three-bedroom condo unit that she shares with her husband Rey Soldevilla and their cute daughter Ayesha.

There's also something about Heart Evangelista’s collaboration with fashion designer Mark Bumgarner, which has resulted to the Mark Bumgarner x Love Marie collection. Heart’s real name is Love Marie Ongpauco-Escudero.

YES! also pays tribute to the recently departed entertainment titan German "Kuya Germs" Moreno and commemorates the late showbiz icon Rudy "Daboy" Fernandez through the release of the documentary film on his life called The Last Pinoy Action Hero.

Plus an update on the phenomenal AlDub love team of Alden Richards and Maine “Yaya Dub” Mendoza, and the YES! Chronicles series.

March 2016 issue is now available in stands and soon on Buqo, Zinio, and Apple Newsstand.
