With the passing of Francis Magalona, the collaboration
between him and Ely Buendia was thought to be shelved. However, Mrs. Pia Magalona gladly announced
on Startalk today, April 4, that The Sickos Project would push
through this year.
Pia shares, "Just last night I was in touch with Ely about it. I'm glad we told everyone na hintayin ako for my decision kung kelan puwede na kami ulit mag-pick up from where we left off.' So I told him I'm ready na anytime."
Pia was so occupied with engagements, responsibilities and interviews regarding Francis M. that she ould not yet be aound to discuss details of the project.
"Ngayon mas magkakaroon ako ng mas maluwag na schedule, so sabi ko, maayos namin ulit yun, magkaka-resume na kami ng recording sa studio and we could continue the finishing touches na kailangan gawin."
DREAM PROJECT. Late last year, Francis and Ely worked together and planned to release the album early this year. However, due to the Master Rapper's deteriorating health, the release date was pushed to a later date. The two continued working on it even while Francis was confined in the hospital. The Buendia-Magalona dream project called The Sickos Project was originally planned to have 12 tracks in the album, with six songs each from their respective bands. Six songs had already been completed before Francis passed away. But according to Pia, she was able to find other material from her late husband.
"I was able to find other material and we could lay the vocals against tracks of the instruments. Puwede namin gawan ng paraan with the technology we have now. It's really very exciting kasi marami kaming napick-up na sound bits ni Francis. "
The sound bits come from Francis M.'s outtakes and previous recordings in the studio. Talks about the album are beginning to pick up.
"Definitely we're going to release it. I've already spoken with the label."
Once the album is launched, the fans will hear it first on GMA-7, Pia promised.
"The ones close to my heart, Eat Bulaga and Startalk... kasi nagagawan naman ng special presentation and I really appreciate it," ended Pia.
