Two Filipino films to be screened in Un Certain Regard section of 66th Cannes Film Fest

Sam Milby, Zanjoe Marudo and Sid Lucero are some of the actors who topbill the films to be screened in Cannes.

Two Filipino films are included in the Un Certain Regard section of the 66th Cannes Film Festival.

Adolf Alix Jr.'s Death March and Lav Diaz's Norte, Hangganan Ng Kasaysayan are among the films to be shown in the prestigious film festival.

Sam Milby, Sid Lucero and Zanjoe Marudo star in Death March, which depicts the 70-mile forced march of American and Filipino prisoners of war by Japanese forces during World War II.

Aside from Sam. Sid and Zanjoe, Death March also stars Jason Abalos, Felix Roco, Luis Alandy, Ejay Falcon and Carlo Aquino.

In 2009, Direk Adolf was able to walk on the red carpet of Cannes. He and Raya Martin co-directed the Piolo Pascual-starrer Manila, which was included in the Out-of-Competition (Special Screenings) of the 62nd Cannes Film Fest.

Direk Adolf also helmed Donsol, the Philippines' official entry to the Best Foreign Language Film Category of the 80th Annual Academy Awards.

Lav Diaz's four-hour film (also known as Norte, The End of History) stars Sid Lucero, Archie Alemania, and Soliman Cruz, among others.

Direk Lav is known for critically acclaimed films such as Batang West Side and Ebolusyon ng Isang Pamilyang Pilipino. His film Melancholia won the Best Film Award in the Orizzonti Section of the 65th Venice International Film Festival.

Referred to in English as A Certain Glance or A Particular Outlook, the Un Certain Regard section is open to original and different works from all over the world.

The 2013 Cannes Film Fest will be held in France from May 15 to 27.

The Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer The Great Gatsby will serve as the opening film of Cannes. Steven Spielberg is this year's jury head for the official competition.

For the Un Certain Regard section, Danish director Thomas Vinterberg will head the jury. The Bling Ring, starring Emma Watson, will serve as the opening film of the said section.
