MMFF 2020 Gabi ng Parangal: Fan Girl sweeps major awards including Best Picture

MMFF 2020 winners: (clockwise) Paulo Avelino, Best Actor for Fan Girl; Michael de Mesa, Best Supporting Actor for Isa Pang Bahaghari; Shaina Magdayao, Best Supporting Actress for Tagpuan; and Charlie Dizon, Best Actress for Fan Girl.

Big winner ang Fan Girl sa 46th Metro Manila Film Festival Gabi ng Parangal nitong Disyembre 27, Linggo, na nag-live streaming sa Facebook page ng Metro Manila Film Festival.

Na-sweep ng Fan Girl ang five major categories na best picture, best director (Antoinette Jadaone), best actress (Charlie Dizon), best actor (Paulo Avelino), at best screenplay (Antoinette Jadaone).

Composed pa si Direk Antoinette nang makamit ang best screenplay award. Nang maging best director siya ay tawa siya nang tawa na parang matutumba sa kinauupuan.

Nang i-announce ang best picture, nagtatalon sa galak si Direk Dan Villegas (fiancé ni Direk Antoinette) na isa sa producers.

At nang ihayag ang best actress, sabay-sabay na nagtatalon sina Charlie, Direk Antoinette at Direk Dan.

Unang pinasalamatan ni Charlie ang Panginoon.

Special mention ni Charlie si Iza Calzado (nominadong best actress para sa Tagpuan), na siya umanong tulay para makilala siya nina Direk Antoinette.

Nagkatrabaho sina Iza at Charlie sa Cinemalaya 2019 film na Pandanggo sa Hukay.

Pumalakpak si Iza nang i-announce na si Direk Antoinette ang best director.

Composed si Paulo sa acceptance speech bilang best actor, pero kumukurot sa puso ang kanyang punchline, “It’s for you, Aki.”

Si Aki ang anak nila ni LJ Reyes.

Maliban sa five major awards, nakamit ng Fan Girl ang apat pang parangal para sa best cinematography (Neil Daza), best editing (Benjamin Tolentino), best sound (Vincent Villa), at 3rd place bilang best virtual float.

Ang 2nd best picture na The Boy Foretold By The Stars ay wagi rin ng Gender Sensitivity Award at best original theme song ("Ulan").

Ang 3rd best picture na Tagpuan ay panalo rin ng best supporting actress (Shaina Magdayao).

Hindi nominado ang screenplay ng Magikland, kaya siguro ligwak ito sa Top 3 best picture.

Ganoon pa man, nakaanim na award ang Magikland—FPJ Memorial Award, best virtual float, best production design (Ericson Navarro), best visual effects (Richard Francia, Ryan Grimarez of Central Digital Lab), best musical score (Emerzon Texon), at Special Jury Prize (Peque Gallaga).

Sina Marco Gumabao at Kylie Versoza ang nag-host ng virtual Gabi ng Parangal ng MMFF 2020.

Napakabilis ng programa. Ang awards proper ay humigit-kumulang isang oras at limang minuto lamang.

Napaka-ironic na buffering habang inihahayag ang winner sa kategoryang best sound. Sa blue carpet, nag-host sina Giselle Sanchez at Chad Kinis.

Nagbiro si Giselle na mananalo si Michael de Mesa bilang best actor o best actress para sa Isa Pang Bahaghari. Sa best supporting actor nominado si Michael, at ito nga ang nagwagi.

Sabi pa ni Giselle, baka manalong best picture ang Isa Pang Bahaghari. Clueless si Giselle na hindi nominado ang Isa Pang Bahaghari sa best picture category.

Nagwagi rin ang Isa Pang Bahaghari bilang second place sa best virtual float.

Tig-isa ng award ang Suarez: The Healing Priest (Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award) at The Missing (best child performer, Seiyo Masunaga).

Ngangey ang Mang Kepweng: Ang Lihim ng Bandanang Itim sa dalawang kategorya na nominado ito.

Ang Pakboys: Takusa, sa nominations pa lang ay bokya na.
