Two TV stations are gearing up to offer teleseryes featuring mermaids.
ABS-CBN officially acquired the exclusive rights to 13 Mars Ravelo titles including Dyesebel, which features a half-human, half-fish character.
Anne Curtis is the lead actress in Dyesebel while Gerald Anderson and Sam Milby are cast as her leading men in this fantaserye.
Last January 15, Anne used her Instagram account to share a photo of her undergoing training for her upcoming show.
The actress is photographed posing by the edge of a swimming pool where mermaid tails and goggles are seen.
Her caption read:
"Day 2 of training with my coach Karla Fukui of the Philippine Mermaid Swimming Academy! I'll tell you one thing, it certainly isn't an easy thing to do BUT it's loads of fun!!! #Dyesebel"
This is not the first time for Anne to portray a mermaid onscreen. In 2008, Anne was cast as a goddess in the fantaserye Dyosa. Her character was able to transform into a mermaid (half-fish), a centaur (half-human, half-horse), or a siren (half-human with eagle wings).

In Philippine television, Marian Rivera brought life to Dyesebel in a telefantasya aired on GMA-7 in 2008. Dingdong Dantes served as her leading man in the said show.
Meanwhile, GMA-7 recently announced that its mermaid-themed show, Kambal Sirena, will start airing by March 2014.
In this original series, Louise delos Reyes will play twins Alona and Perlas whose sisterly bonds are weakened because of jealousy.

“Mahirap talaga ang training ko pero tinapangan ko ang sarili ko dahil ayaw kong mapahiya. Ayoko din naman na magsisisi sila na ako ang napili para sa role. Ito na ang pinakachallenging role ko so far dahil physically and emotionally kailangan akong maging handa,” Louise was quoted as saying in a release provided by GMA-7.
