It is confirmed: John Estrada is making a Kapamilya comeback.
Dreamscape Entertainment, a content-providing unit of ABS-CBN, posted the news earlier today, August 23, 2021.
John is joining the Dreamscape series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, which is airing its latest chapter tonight, as it celebrates its sixth anniversary.
In the quote card posted by Dreamscape on Instagram, John said he is happy to return to ABS-CBN, the network where he started his career.
“Napakasaya ko. Dito ako nagsimula sa ABS-CBN. I’m happy to be back. Blessing sa akin na bumalik sa ABS-CBN at mapasama sa FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.”
The project reunites John and Coco Martin, who were both in the prime-time shows Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin (2011) and Ikaw Lamang (2014).
John’s last project with ABS-CBN was the prime-time series The Good Son, which aired from 2017 to 2018.
JOHN ESTRADA’S TV CAREER
John started his television career as part of the sitcom Palibhasa Lalake from 1990 to 1998.
He got his big break in hosting via Magandang Tanghali Bayan, which aired from 1998 to 2003.
John also became known as a dramatic actor in ABS-CBN teleseryes, such as Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay (2002-2003), Hiram (2004), Dahil May Isang Ikaw (2009), Agua Bendita (2010), and Magpahanggang Wakas (2016), among others.
In February 2018, a tabloid reported that John and The Good Son co-star Mylene Dizon had a heated confrontation on the set.
John strongly denied the report, while Mylene and the teleserye’s production were silent about the issue.
In March, John’s character was killed in The Good Son, and it was said to be part of the story.
In the same month, he also accepted an offer from GMA-7 to be part of the prime-time series Victor Magtanggol, starring Alden Richards.
This was followed by Kara Mia in 2019. John’s last GMA-7 appearance was the afternoon series Babawiin Ko Ang Lahat that aired this year.
John is also the lead actor and the line producer of the TV5 sitcom John En Ellen, with Ellen Adarna as his leading lady.
Recently, the sitcom faced controversy when Ellen reportedly walked out of the set.
Ellen denied the walkout, stating she was "promised a cut-off."
It was also reported that she would not be joining the sitcom's third season.
John affirmed Ellen's statament, and confirmed in an interview that his co-star has already said her goodbyes to the sitcom.
He is not sure whether John En Ellen will continue with a third season.
