Edu Manzano makes a comeback to GMA Network as he starts taping for the upcoming Kapuso drama series Someone To Watch Over Me.
Lead actress Lovi Poe recently posted on her Instagram account a picture with partner Tom Rodriguez, Jackie Lou Blanco, and Edu while taping scenes for this new TV drama.
In an interview with 24 Oras, Edu revealed that he will play Tom's father in the series.
He struggles to find acceptance from his son who is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
Edu says about his character, "We also see a father now na naghahabol sa pagmamahal, gusto niyang ipakita ang lahat ng pagmamahal sa kanyang anak at nakita, unti-unti, he's fading away."
He accepted the project because aside from the show's bold concept, he had a chance to work with premiere director Maryo J. delos Reyes.
The series marks Edu's first teleserye in GMA after many years, and his comeback after losing his bid for senator during the 2016 elections.
Prior to this, he played an important role in ABS-CBN's 2015 drama series Bridges of Love, starring Maja Salvador, Jericho Rosales, and Paulo Avelino.
Way back in 1999, Edu was able to do a drama series with GMA, the Jessa Zaragosa-starrer Di Ba't Ikaw where he played one of the villains.
After that, he became known for doing TV dramas in ABS-CBN, including Labs Ko Si Babe, Sa Puso Ko Iingatan Ka, Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay, and Walang Kapalit.
In 2010, Edu returned to GMA to be a host in the morning show Unang Hirit, and the short-lived daytime game show Asar Talo, Laging Panalo.
He was also able to do shows in TV5 such as Game N' Go, Good Morning Club, and Face The People.
Someone To Watch Over Me features the first team-up of Lovi and Tom in a drama series.
In a previous interview, Lovi shared that she had already taped intimate scenes with Tom, as the two of them play a married couple.
The upcoming primetime series, which also stars Max Collins, is tentatively scheduled to air this August.
