Every year, the television industry deals with celebrities jumping from one network to another.
This 2017 is no exception.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) monitored the movement of stars from January to December 2017 and noted that GMA-7 welcomed 20 new actors in its roster of talents.
Some of them are first-timers in the network, while others decided to return after years of doing projects with rival stations.
As PEP.ph looks back on the showbiz events that happened in the year 2017, check out this list of talents who decided to look for other opportunities in rival networks.
Take note that this list includes those who signed exclusive contracts or freelance actors who have not worked with the Kapuso network in a year or longer.
This report does not include those talents who intermittently appear in shows of both networks.

CARMINA VILLARROEL returned to GMA-7 after five years with ABS-CBN.
Her projects with the Kapuso network only started with guest appearances, including the pilot episode of the Public Affairs program Roadtrip and the prime-time series Super Ma'am.
In November 2017, Carmina was announced to play a major role in the teleserye Kambal Karibal starring Bianca Umali and Miguel Tanfelix. The show aired its pilot episode last November 27.
She has returned to the sitcom Pepito Manaloto, her last show with GMA before she transferred to ABS-CBN in 2012. However, the actress clarified that she does not have any exclusive contract with a network.

After being a homegrown talent of ABS-CBN for 12 years, JASON ABALOS decided to transfer to the Kapuso network.
He officially signed an exclusive contract with GMA and its talent arm GMA Artist Center on October 3, 2017.
For his first Kapuso project, Jason will be seen in the upcoming adult romantic-comedy series The One That Got Away.

When ATOM ARAULLO bid goodbye to his Kapamilya show Umagang Kay Ganda last September 15, questions were immediately raised if he would transfer to GMA-7.
Speculations intensified when he was spotted at the lobby of the Kapuso network right after he resigned from the ABS-CBN show.
A week later, on September 21, Atom was officially announced as the newest GMA broadcast journalist, through the news program 24 Oras. His first program with GMA-7 was the documentary special called Philippine Seas. He also joined the weekly documentary program i-Witness.
Atom will also host GMA's online program called Adulting.

DIETHER OCAMPO appeared for the first time on GMA-7 for a guesting in the drama anthology Magpakailanman. He top-billed the June 2017 episode in time for Father's Day.
Diether has been a Kapamilya since the start of his career until 2015 when he did projects with TV5.
In an interview with PEP.ph, GMA SVP for Entertainment Lilybeth Rasonable disclosed that Diether has not yet signed any contract with the network.

MARVIN AGUSTIN returned to GMA-7 after six years, after being with TV5 and ABS-CBN.
The GMA-7 star is currently playing a villain role in the prime-time series Kambal Karibal.

DIONNE MONSANTO made a jump to GMA-7 in October 2017, after being with ABS-CBN for 10 years.
The Pinoy Big Brother alumna signed up with the talent management agency called AGP House of Characters, helmed by Rams David. Dionne was even spotted at the lobby of GMA Network Center last October 10.
The actress, who's famous for her Lucy role in Tubig at Langis, later clarified that she only had meetings with the Kapuso network and no contract has been formally signed yet.

MATT EVANS made the big jump to GMA-7 after 11 years with ABS-CBN in September 2017. The former Pinoy Big Brother housemate signed up with AGP House of Characters.
In September 11, Matt formally bade goodbye to Star Magic and ABS-CBN. The following day, on September 12, Matt had a guest appearance in Eat Bulaga. This was soon followed by guest appearances in various Kapuso shows.
The GMA-7 star is set to appear in the upcoming Kapuso drama series Sherlock Jr.

MEG IMPERIAL made a jump to GMA-7 last April 2017, after she was announced to be part of the afternoon series D' Originals.
This was after her guest appearance in ABS-CBN's FPJ's Ang Probinsyano in late 2016.
Meg, who is a talent of VIVA Artists Agency, is currently part of the Kapuso prime-time series Super Ma'am.

SHAIRA MAE, who is a graduate of TV5's Artista Academy, joined the Kapuso daytime series Trops in January 2017.
Shaira told PEP.ph in an interview that Trops's producer TAPE, Inc. called TV5 to get her for the show, since at that time, she still had an existing contract with the Kapatid network.
Her supposed guest role became a permanent character until the show's finale in September 2017.
In fact, her love team with That's My BAE member Miggy Tolentino became popular, which is why they were included in the film Trip Ubusan that was shown last November 2017.

SOPHIE ALBERT signed an exclusive contract with GMA and GMA Artist Center last October 13.
This was after she spent one year with the Kapamilya network. Prior to transferring to ABS-CBN, Sophie was a talent of TV5 for four years after winning the reality show Artista Academy.
Her first project with the Kapuso network was a guest appearance in the Halloween special of Magpakailanman.

KYLINE ALCANTARA, who started as a child star in ABS-CBN, transferred to GMA-7 in late 2017.
The GMA-7 star currently plays the main kontrabida role in the prime-time series Kambal Karibal, as third wheel to the love team of Bianca Umali and Miguel Tanfelix.

ALYANA ASISTIO officially became a Kapuso when she signed a contract with the network in October 2017.
Prior to her contract signing, Alyana was part of the Kapamilya series La Luna Sangre.
Her first GMA project was an episode of the Sunday drama anthology Dear Uge. She is also part of the upcoming series Sherlock Jr.

CATHERINE REM, who was known as Cathy Remperas on ABS-CBN, made a showbiz comeback via GMA-7 in June 2016.
She played a special role in the prime-time series I Heart Davao, and also had a short stint in the afternoon series Haplos.

PATRICIA JAVIER returned to GMA-7 in May 2017 for the afternoon series Haplos, which aired its pilot episode on July 10, 2017.
This was after she staged a showbiz comeback on ABS-CBN via the 2015 afternoon series Doble Kara.
Patricia started her TV career with GMA when she joined Growing Up in 1999 and Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin in 2002.

Veteran actress HELEN GAMBOA's stint with GMA-7 finally pushed through when she was announced as part of the prime-time series Super Ma'am.
It may be recalled that in 2013, Helen was supposed to transfer to GMA as part of Akin Pa Rin Ang Bukas. However, illness forced her to back out of the show.
In late 2016, it was announced that she will be part of ABS-CBN's Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin. She was later replaced by Gina Pareño.

After many attempts of doing projects with GMA-7, TONTON GUTIERREZ will finally be seen in the network again after almost two years.
He was supposed to be a part of Haplos. However, he had to drop out of the cast since at that time, his canned series The Promise of Forever has not aired yet, which eventually became the rival of Haplos in its timeslot.
In 2018, Tonton will be seen in the Kapuso prime-time series Sherlock Jr.
