Actress and former beauty queen Chat Silayan died of colon cancer on April 23 at St. Luke's Hospital in Quezon City. She was 46. Chat—Marie Rosario Silayan-Bailon in real life—was third runner-up in the 1980 Ms. Universe pageant in Seoul, South Korea. Her notable films include kamakalawa(1981), Kailan Tama ang Mali (1986), Dyesebel (1990), Esperanza: The Movie (1999), Kung Ako Na Lang Sana (2003), and My First Romance (2003).

At the time of her death, Chat was one of the co-hosts of the weekly Christian show 700 Club Asia, shown on Studio 23. She is survived by her husband Mike, whom she married in 1991, and their three children - Victor, Timothy, and Michaela
