Comedienne Marissa Sanchez clinched two trophies in the Powerplay Badminton Tournament Libay Cup last December 10, held at Powerplay Badminton Center in Apo Street, España, Manila. The comedienne-singer won in the women's double and mixed-double divisions.
"Bale kasama ko sa women's double si Libay Fernando, a friend. Then dun sa mixed double, si Rick Valmonte, pamangkin siya ni Direk Romy Suzara. I was hoping nga na Ian [her hubby] will win too, kaya lang di sinuwerte," narrates a happy Marissa to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) over the phone yesterday, December 19.
Marissa once had a traumatic experience playing badminton which nearly made her shy away from the sport.
Laments the bubbly comedienne, "Natalo kasi kami noon sa Star Olympics 2003 e, ako ang dahilan. Ayoko na sanang maglaro, but it was my Ate Gigi [Macainag] who convinced me to play again. Mahirap talaga sa umpisa pero ngayon I'm enjoying it talaga. I'm encouraging people na kagaya ko to play badminton."
When not hitting shuttle cocks, Marissa is busy preparing for her show at the Hyatt Casino Hotel on December 31. And she just finished taping an episode for the ABS-CBN drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya.
"January na siguro maipapalabas yun," says Marissa, "I also play the mother of Carla Humphries in Abt Ur Luv [ABS-CBN's Saturday teen series]. Natapos na rin namin yung taping ng Captain Barbell [GMA-7's fantaserye where she plays a villain] na matatapos na this January."
Marissa will also have a concert on January 23, 2007, at the Music Museum entitled "A Date with Marissa Sanchez."
"Hopefully, si Zsa Zsa Padilla ang guest ko," adds Marissa.
The comedienne wishes that 2007 will be a fruitful one for her career and that she and husband Ian will finally be blessed with a baby.
