Days after giving an interview to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) about her newfound love, DZMM reporter Carlo Castillo, Amy Perez dropped a bomb yesterday in the entertainment talk show The Buzz.
Amy confessed to being pregnant!
"Actually, plinano naman talaga namin ni Carlo iyon. So pinag-usapan namin iyon. Meaning to say, iyon iyong napag-usapan namin from the start. So kumbaga, hindi ito naging aksidente. Hindi namin ito ginawa out of ano lang... Pinag-usapan talaga namin," clarified Amy.
In an interview with PEP last week, Amy, a former Magandang Tanghali Bayan co-host, and Carlo, currently a DZMM reporter, shared their love story.
Amy and Carlo met in the radio station DZMM on February 2006. Amy was listening to Karen Davila's radio program where a child was asking for financial help. She decided to help out by giving a donation. Carlo Castillo was the contact person in charge of the child's case.
"Nung una kaming nagkakilala, palagi kaming kontra-pelo. Basta lagi kaming hindi magkasundo, in short. Tuwing nagkikita kami, hindi namin alam kung bakit kami naiinis sa isa't isa. ‘Yun pala, mayroong ibig sabihin beyond that," Amy recounted.
She added, "Actually, nagsusubukan lang pala kami. Pupunta ako rito [sa DZMM], nagpapakita ako sa kanya. ‘Pag nakauwi na ako, tini-text niya ako kung nasaan na daw ako. Sabi ko naman, nasa bahay na ako. Minsan naman, nandito ako, ‘tapos after nung program niya, dire-diretso siya umuuwi, tini-text ko din siya."
On November 12, 2006, the two became a couple.
Amy has a son, Adi, with former South Border vocalist Brix Ferraris—who, until now, is her legal husband. She filed a case a few years back petitioning the courts to declare her marriage to the singer null and void. Unfortunately, the courts did not favor Amy's plea even though she swears she has not seen or heard from her estranged husband for close to 10 years. Amy has taken the sole responsibility of raising her child.
The nine-year-old Adi already calls Carlo "Daddy."
Amy asserted, "Sa akin kasi, lahat ng mga bagay na ginagawa ni Carlo para sa akin, at sa anak ko lalo na, talagang na-appreciate ko 'yon. Sobra kong bina-value 'yon. Bukod sa pagkabolero n'ya—pero hindi naman playboy dahil marami lang ang nagkakagusto sa kanya talaga—ay malalim na tao si Carlo at responsable."
Carlo commented, "Totoong tao si Amy. Mabait. Kumbaga, malayo doon sa mga artistang nakilala mo. Malayo siya doon. Isa sa mga katangian ni Amy na gusto ko ay 'yong tatanungin mo siya, ‘tapos sasagutin ka niya nang patanong din."
He continued, "Ever since na naging kami, nakikita namin ang development at improvement sa bawa't isa at hindi kami naghahatakan pababa. Kumbaga, nagiging productive kami sa bawa't isa."
Now, a new chapter unfolds. The couple is bringing a new life into this world.
Even if Amy has said that the pregnancy was planned, both Carlo's and Amy's families were taken by surprise by this development.
"Siyempre, mixed emotions una. Masaya sila, ‘tapos, of course, mayroon ‘yong takot na alam nilang bago pa lang relasyon namin ni Carlo. Plus the fact that at this point, alam naman ng lahat at kahit si Carlo na wala akong maipapangakong kasal sa kanya," explained the radio host of AMY, About Me and You.
"So naging open naman kami doon... Kumbaga, hindi ko ‘yon tinago sa kanya. At ‘yon lang naman, may mga fears—both our families—pero sinabi naman namin, pinangako naman namin ni Carlo sa kanila, kakayanin namin at gagawin namin ang lahat para maiayos at maitama ang dapat itama."
Looking uncomfortable about being the interviewee instead of the interviewer, Carlo managed to assure Amy that he is not going anywhere.
"Lagi kong sinasabi sa kanya na mahal na mahal ko siya," he said.
"Nais ko lang humingi ng tawad sa mga magulang namin siyempre, sa pamilya ni Carlo, sa pamilya ko, di ba? Alam kong masaya sila pero alam ko ring nasasaktan sila sa nangyayari—natatakot o nasasaktan. Lalo na sa pamilya ni Carlo. But we promised each other na we will support each other at aayusin namin lahat ng dapat. Sorry sa mga magulang namin, but the time na lumabas ‘yong bata, siguro we'll do everything right," ended Amy.
