"Things have never been better for ABS-CBN... I'd like to say that the official national ratings came out yesterday, and the results show that ABS-CBN is the leading station nationwide," announced Charo Santos-Concio, the network's Vice-President for Entertainment, last March 28.
According to a nationwide survey conducted by AGB Nielsen Media Research, the Kapamilya Network got a 47% audience share from March 4-17, said ABS-CBN Vice-President for Research and Business Analysis Vivian Tin.
The competing network, which we assume to be GMA-7, only got 35%.
The article, posted in PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) on March 28, received many positive and negative comments—94 entries and counting. Some agreed with the ABS-CBN announcement; others did not.
PEP conducted its own quasi survey on which station—ABS-CBN or GMA-7—is indeed No. 1.
Incidentally, our studies show that 36.32% of PEP users are from the Philippines, 28.88% are from the U.S., and the rest are from different parts of the world. (This means that as long as there's the Internet, there is PEP!)
The week-long poll came up with 70,942 votes. Note: Votes do not equal the actual number of people who voted, but the number of clicks that the poll generated. And the PEP users have spoken—or clicked, to be technically correct.
The result: ABS-CBN received a total of 52.56% votes, while GMA-7 got 46.78%. Votes totalling 0.66% did not go for either of the two.
There can be several explanations as to why the poll came up with these results. But there's one thing sure: PEP votes were counted fair and square.
To all Kapuso and Kapamilya, chill. It's just a survey.
