John "Sweet" Lapus beat Brad Turvey and Vanna Garcia in Hi! magazine's "Hi! Bili Ka Na!" Celebrity Challenge, which was held on June 15, at the Plaza Miranda, Quiapo, Manila.

Before the start of the game, the challengers were given 50 copies of Hi! magazine's June 2007 issue. Their mission—to sell these magazines in an hour. The celebrity who could sell the most number of copies would win the game.

The celebrity contestants ignored the sun's scorching heat and simply approached people to sell their copies of Hi! magazine.

John positioned himself strategically near the Plaza Miranda Mall to waylay the shoppers. He also used his charm and his pen, of course, for autograph signing.

According to Sweet, his strategy was, "Dinaan ko na lang sa sales talk, di ba? And tell them straight na Hi! magazine is very informative magazine, punung-puno ng mga showbiz chika, there are so many pictures of celebrities, and maraming mga kapupulutang impormasyon about sa mga idol ng mga fans, di ba?"

On the other hand, Brad didn't leave the Plaza Miranda spot and just roamed around convincing every person he saw. In exchange for buying a copy, Brad offered to have his picture taken with the buyer.

Vanna went to the nearby Quiapo underpass to do her sales pitch with the passers-by.

After an hour, the officials counted the remaining magazines of each challenger. On the final counting, Sweet had sold 70 copies, defeating Brad, who came second with 41 copies, and Vanna, who sold the least number of copies.

After receiving the P35,000 cash prize from Hi! Magazine's editorial-in-chief, Ces Evangelista, Sweet gushed, "Magpapainom ako!"

SWEET CELEBRITY. During the challenge, it was obvious that a lot of people easily recognized John more than they did Brad and Vanna. Some even tried to make some "chika" and took fan photos with him.
